Had a BSOD in Win 11 for the first time - but not the usual BSOD. Windows Explorer locked up solid: it responded in a second window, but not in the first although that responded to "focus" changes it just wouldn't response to mouse or keyboard events at all. Task manager showed almost zero CPU usage across the system, and memory usage was stable. Everything else was working but this was stuck in my display. So I eventually used TM to close Windows Explorer. And the screen went pale blue across all three monitors with no task bar. Waited for it all to come back, but no joy. So, eventually found a way to bring up an Admin CMD box, and forced a shutdown that way.
Restart and all is fine. The new WE is really flaky, not a patch on the previous version which I suspect wasn't written by a 10 year old ...
At the same time, Phone Link has updated itself, and added a really nice feature: you can drag and drop files between your PC and phone instead of having to go via email or OneDrive! That's nice, and it seems to work pretty quickly as well.

Another reason to always have the "Launch folder windows in a separate process" option turned on - killing a WE instance won't also kill the taskbar.

I've always turned this option on.

But that with 'no task bar' is a normal behaviour after killing the explorer.
Open TM again (which you can reach with Ctrl&Alt&Delete) and then use TM 'File->Run new task' to start explorer again. After this the taskbar should appear again.

I have had that the "Windows+R" (run) worked without task bar too, not always though.

I never got PhoneLink to actually work, although I'm on 10, not 11. From what I heard (and this was years ago, the situation could've changed) MS really only made the effort to get it to work with iPhones and a specific subset of Samsung phones; for everything else, their position essentially amounted to, "great for you if it works, but don't come back to us if your particular model doesn't."
OTOH, whenever I plug in my phone (or any phone, really, based on my experience), Win10's Explorer adds a new entry directly under "This PC", and double-clicking it will show either "Internal storage" or "External" storage (eg, MicroSD card), onto which I can drag/drop any file in any folder...and frankly that's as sophisticated as I want it to be (eg, not at all).

I use Phone Link more than my actual ZFold 4 when I'm working. I am pretty verbose so typing my replies is much faster.

Not sure if it's still there on WE, but on the Task Manager>File menu, there's an option to Run New Task. I've used that to restart Explorer in the past.

There is a good chance that the updating phone app killed the explorer, for almost every W11 hiccup I got a new update something after restart.
It is the next stage of capitalism, if it works after the restart then glory to the management who fired the testers.
And yes, in this stage it happens to cars, too.
How to reset your Mercedes Central locking system.
Before taking your Mercedes to a Mercedes-certified mechanic, you can reset the central Locking System yourself and see if that fixes any glitches or issues. You will not need any special equipment to reset the central locking system.
Here’s what you need to do:
Unlock the two front doors, the driver’s door and the driver’s passenger door. Then, lock the two back rear doors. Then, press and hold down the lock button on the key fob for 6 seconds.
You will know you performed the reset correctly when you can open one of the back doors on either side of the vehicle, despite pressing the lock button on the key fob.
If resetting the central Locking System did not fix any of the glitches, then you will have to take your Mercedes to a mechanic.

I like having Phone Link, but I dumped it. It is territorial about its Bluetooth connections, especially with an iOS device. I found that unless I turn off my PC, or at least its Bluetooth, my iPhone won't play nice with other devices because W11 is too greedy with its connection. I would try to answer my phone in my front yard - 80 feet away - and I would have to remember to change the call to use my phone's audio. None of my macOS connections did this, nor any other device I've ever had. Somehow iOS logic can't deal with the way Windows handles things.

I was watching season 2 episode 12 of Quantum Leap and I heard the this exchange :
Programmer : I am trying to make this code work.
Boss : Just type it in and press enter.
I burst out laughing. How many of you have had that boss?
