This should have been loudly publicised in the West in January.
From the moment the contagion was announced (Jan 3rd, only 44 cases, and before anyone had even died from it -- and the same day China formally informed the US about it) just about everyone in China was wearing a mask.
The idea that a mask will protect you is not nonsense, but it's close. Wearing a mask stutters the spread by protecting everyone else, but anti-maskers only shouted about the not-quite-nonsense bit.

But ... Our Great Leader declared that it would go away with the spring, as soon as as it got a little warmer ...

The entire western world didn't take it seriously enough, so no-one wore masks, and the virus ripped through entire communities in no time flat.
Where numbers are high in Asia, it's predominantly because of small clusters of arrogant or stupid behaviour (e.g. religious meetings), where masks were spurned.
So, rule one, for the next one: Wear masks.
Rule zero is, of course, Don't be a dick, but that rule's appropriate at any time, not just during a pandemic.

As far as I understood Our Great Leader last night, any sort of restrictions would be lifted shortly.
It will surely be done stepwise, so that the virus gets a chance to get out again. That gives Our Great Leader a new chance to once again show his great power to give away new billions of dollars to businesses threatened by the new outbreak to cope with the situation.
I guess I am not the only one thinking that the contestant may be smart not wasting his resources this time. Let those who allowed the mess to develop do the cleanup first. The cleanup will last far beyond November, maybe several years.

A staged "re-opening" is the only way to go, so it's clear that the certain-coloured guy you mention has suppressed his vaunted instincts and listened to experts on this, but it has to be made clear to everyone that they should be prepared for entire cities to be locked down again with very short notice, if cases surge.
Be aware, though, that he's not the only national leader whose response has been, shall we say "sub-optimal" (or maybe "sub-par" would be more appropriate/biting), and he's not even the worst.
... But he's by far the most entertaining (which, curiously, appears to be one of his objectives).
Being a high-risk person, because of underlying lung problems (which don't affect me day-to-day, but would sure as sugar be best pals with covid-19), I'm wishing I lived in New Zealand or China. Their leadership has been much more effective in saving lives.

Why do these normally interesting discussions have to devolve into insane utter nonsensical political blame games? I could not care less about your opinion of "Our Great Leader" or some "certain colored person" or any other stupidity spilling out of your mouth. Stick to the meat of the topics snowflakes! Or move to those countries that you think are so much better.

You are aware that "trump" means "fart" in the UK, aren't you?
I'll just keep using the far less disrespectful "certain-coloured person who lives in a certain-coloured house", if you don't mind. Toilet humour is outside my remit.
As for "great leader" (if you look carefully, you'll see that I actually made an effort to tone that down), is that somehow worse than calling fellow members of CP "snowflakes"?
You're allowed to hate politicians (and I'm sure you do). Personally insulting other members of CP is another matter entirely.

Your use of the term "snowflakes" and "move to those countries that you think are so much better . . ." are such typical of a political dump that your citing "political blame game" must be cynical.
Because, in case you haven't noticed - in the US (at least) the has been an awful lot of blaming going on by what is euphemistically referred to as The Top. Statements that are little short of claiming autocracy and absolute power.
I'm referring to whomever it was that would keep people aboard a ship, to contract a deadly virus from one another, literally because they thought it would be "bad for the numbers".
Blame games suck - but if you don't hold those walking sh*ts accountable to someone, somewhere, then they will do whatever they want and (continue to) get away with it. It's real. It's now.
To quote you to yourself (from another post): "What planet . . . are you living on?"

Don't believe all the negative, damning propaganda you hear about New Zealand. The people there are people just like anywhere else.

LOL. First of all, there are like 16 people living in New Zealand so obviously it's going to be a lot easier to contain than a country that has multiple cities in the millions.
Secondly, China is *KILLING* infected people. If that's the kind of treatment leadership you want then, by all means, get going.
Time to step out of whatever echo-chamber bubble you've been living in. You're not even getting half the story. You're getting a distorted 5% of it.

OK, two points:
0. Don't believe such nonsense.
1. If you insist on believing it, keep it out of the CP Lounge.

That "Perfect" leader had, despite prior knowledge, told people to get flu shot, called it a hoax, called it a plot by the opposing political party.
As for all that money - still keeping politics above the lives of the people - they're going to bail out the cruse ship, airlines, and countless other business - but the told the post office to off. They still want to bankrupt it so they can privatize it (or, at least, prevent mail-in ballots for 2020).
Certainly, they see the cruse industry as more vital then the postal service.
And yet, the persistant financial distress of the Post Office is contrived! They are (by a sleazy law) mandated to pay 70 years ahead for employee health/retirement - so they're drained of money and losing money is assured.

At present I happen to be living on planet Earth - infected with a pandemic as well as some very severe outbreaks of authoritarianism and bigotry-oriented nationalism.
A realm where "us" vs. "them" has, as is often the case with sh*t, floated again to the top. Overt lies have found succor in real-life double-think.
I suggest you look at information (from planet Earth, this time) and don't be simple minded. There are connections and they are there - not as conspiracy theories. There's horrible crap happening on both the left and right: at there extremer limits, supported by the same pillars of racial and religious bigotry.

Even if I do not trust at any of all these studies, a mask makes sense for me. One drop less spending/receiving can be one person less infected.

This surely helps, but ain't the fact that a mask helps not spreading diseases so obvious that no video proof should be needed ?
