Less than a metre, probably!

Only if I was born earlier - a meter seems reachable.

I was born in Mussoorie in 1945, my father's family having been there for 3 or 4 generations. Dad was in the Indian army so at partition we were obliged to leave, and came to the UK, which was mother's home. Growing up in the UK in the 40s and 50s we had curry of some sort at least once a week, my mother being a very inventive cook, which she learned while living out there.
I did not return until my business trips in 2005 when our company was working with MindTree. Sadly I did not get a chance to visit Mussoorie owing to various other pressures on my time.

So ... less than a yard then?

Of course, no one out there had heard of those weird foreign measurements.

Wow! Thanks for sharing the details, great to know.

I found this place when I googled for alternatives to StackOverflow sites. I won't say too much about my tragic journey through that forum. Only to say it's fine if you're looking for answers from a Google search but terrible if you want to ask your own questions.
I kind of miss the good ol' days where the first software / programming forums when people came to share ideas and answers rather than trying to make you feel stupid for asking in the first place.
Anyway I have no idea how active this place is. Maybe this is a way I can find out.
Cheers

Good to know. I just posted a question as well.
I have lived with several Zen masters - all of them were cats.
His last invention was an evil Lasagna. It didn't kill anyone, and it actually tasted pretty good.

We're mostly a friendly bunch!
The only thing to remember is: we don't do your homework! So if that's what you are after - or that's what your question looks like - then you'll get much the same here as at SO. If you are trying and it's giving you a problem, then ask away and show us what you have got - we'll see what we can do to help you.
Equally, if you are a seasoned developer with a problem the same applies: show us where you problem is, explain where you are stuck, and we'll be all over it!
Just remember that we can't see you screen, can't access your HDD, and can't read you mind - all we get is exactly what you type to work with. So if we come back requesting more info, there is a reason; we aren't trying to wind you up! Asking questions is a skill, and a lot of people haven't developed it: Asking questions is a skill[^]
Oh, and don't ask programmign questions here: as Peter said, use the appropriate forum[^] or QuickAnswers[^]. The former is best for "discussions", the latter for quick solutions (it's only a little text box, after all). There are also articles and tips on ... well pretty much anything ... which are worth checking if you need something more complicated: Site Map - articles[^]
A quick Google "my question here site:codeproject.com" can help a lot as well.
Kick back, take your shoes off, and grab a - we do want to help and enjoy ourselves!

Excellent. In that case, read my mind right now and gimme an answer. Urgentz. Feel free to ignore all the stuff about about being chaotic evil. That's just the default header.

The truth is that most of my thoughts at the moment are centered around eating, sleeping, 3D printing, repairing old computers, building new old computers and bringing the Wraithmobile back to life after having to let it stand for a whole year. Not much room for any noteworthy evil.

Sorry - we're not allowed to travel or visit your house because of the pandemic.
If you can wait until ... ooooh, between the middle of next year and eternity ... I'll be glad to pop over!
