I remember, and fondly carry the wrong join date as a memento of marvelous times in the industry, and our community. Even though I don't actively program anymore, except for occasional personal projects, I still consider this site my home on the Internet. I haven't contributed much in the last decade or so, and I wouldn't blame you if I got deleted, but this community is my family. I have a great affection for all who frequent the site, it being the only truly useful site on the 'Net for those who code. I've learned a bunch, and taught a bit, and never spent a moment here that wasn't enjoyable and/or useful. I can't thank you enough, Chris, for the magnificent site that you, and Uwe, et al, created all those years ago. Happy New Year, my distant friend, and may God grant you many more years of ever increasing success. This is my home, and until I'm kicked out - screaming and biting - I shall remain.

You? Be deleted? I'd rather cut off my right arm. Or someone's arm. No sense in wasting a good one

Sounds like something my old friend Zaphod would say, though I can't recall it.

You mean "tolerating" technology... That's my view anyway.
I can't wait until I retire and don't have to care about new stuff anymore.

If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about?

Ok, who saw the above and though they did that with Window 8, how did that go again?

I didn't know what to make of it at first, so I glanced at the article and realized that it was a case of what one of my former managers referred to as "Same lady, new dress."

They've been adding a lot of functions so your apps can be more bouncy, elastic, zoomy, rounded and transparent ... but you still have to figure out what the app should do and make it happen. So, yes, no progress.
Like my phone ... 90% of the docs is devoted to "taking pictures".

It seems to me that the phone is more a camera than a phone. Email, Teams and WhatsApp very useful, Twitter, Web stuff not so much.

I miss Windows 3, I disliked the "sweeping visual rejuvenation of Windows" in Windows 95.

Maybe they'll bring back the automatic vertical scroll bar that some brain trust at Microsoft decided wasn't needed.

They do that with every second version.
And the in between versions are there to fix the problems they create.

Nah - they've decided it's too hard. Instead, they will make the start menu into one big button that takes you directly to FaceBook, so you can do everything you could possibly want in this day and age without the strain the previous start menus induced. Very smart people up there in Redmond - gonna take piles of money to the bank!
