Of course we can now discuss what self-made means in detail. But I don't feel like doing that

Yep,
Obesity is known to be related to psychiatric problems. It's super important to eat healthy and get a little exercise.

I did think if that as well. I am sure there are some out there with mental health issues which results in eating disorders. But then I thought, if taught at young age, it may be helpful for people to evaluate themselves and their behaviours and get help. Of course, help needs to be available and affordable.
I was ~30 when I realized that I am prone to addictions and I can do a lot of self harm due to addictions. Luckily, I think, I am mentally stronger than addictions as I kicked them out for good. If I was taught to be self aware when young, I may have figured it earlier instead of hard way.

Plus, the portion size in US is too big. We had ordered a burger with side salad and no chips/fries. What we got was a burger that looks twice as big as European ones, a bucket of salad and what would be medium sized fries in Europe. My wife and I looked at each other and said at same time - we should have just ordered 1 burger and "side" salad for both of us.

Developed countries tend to have more sedentary lifestyles. Combine this with rich, high calorie foods and the human body will simply store all the extra fuel for the next famine.
Where we fall down in avoiding this is with food pricing. The high calorie foods tend to be cheaper to make and therefore are cheaper to buy. Nasty cycle many people get into.

It's amazing what you find when you cut through the political BS of a "problem".

so, it's not a problem?

It's a problem, but if you listen to the standard party line, the issue is land based plastics with no mention of other possible sources.

i've never heard anyone say that.

Interesting that Mount Everest (among many other Mountains) has a pollution problem and they still don't know how to solve it. Um, err, maybe we don't climb Mount Everest anymore.

I think a better option would be for the climbers and their crew to haul out the crap they bring with them. I fail to see why it should be anyone else's responsibility.

That will not work in this case. Many climbers did not make it back, leaving behind a trail of dumped equipment and ultimately themselves as pollution on the mountain. Anybody who climbs up there to recover anything is in danger of becoming a permanent resident himself.

Saw some articles late last week and over the weekend describing YouTube livestreams of Excel pros competing in a Financial Modeling World Championship "esports" competition. I'm vaguely aware that some YouTubers are making millions of $$ livestreaming their online gaming endeavors, but have no sense what the entertainment value there would be. However, I spent years working in Excel for financial institutions, building models both simple and complex, and was baffled by the idea that somebody would willingly spend upwards of 90 minutes to watch Excel experts competing on these models.
OK, so thinking that maybe you might learn something by watching, I invested about 15 minutes to watch a portion of one of the videos. [^]FMWC Open - Dec 8 (America Session) - Excel as esports - YouTube[^]
Initial suspicions were confirmed. The views of competitors' screens are small, you can't really see well what they're doing, you have little chance to tease out any single person's approach or logic, and they move from cell to cell so quickly that you can't even begin to see the formulas they've used. Additionally, in the portion I saw, they had 3 "experts" in small windows at 3 corners of the screen commenting on what "current" competitor was doing - that competitor appearing in the 4th corner of the screen.
They have links below the video to the various challenges on the FMWC web site, but if you want to see completed Excel models, it'll cost you $10 US EACH to download the files.
Am I wrong to think Excel as an esport is bizarre?
