I have someone using my GFX library for a project of theirs.
They need a really tall font to show up large enough on their screen. Raster doesn't seem to be in the equation because I can't find 40px high raster fonts in a format digestible by any major IoT graphics libraries.
So TrueType it is. The trouble is, he doesn't have the RAM on his widget to load a TTF into memory. It must be embedded as a .h header file and streamed from the "program flash" space.
It works, but it's not fast. I need to make it fast, or he's out of luck, and his fairly simple use case blows a sizable hole in my own project.
*cracks knuckles*
This is coding. This kind of thing gets the blood flowing for me. I'm behind the 8-ball and only being smarter than the hardware is going to get me out of that predicament.
EDIT: IT WORKS. Using it from a header is plenty fast enough even on a WROOM: ttgo_ttf_mock/main.cpp at master · codewitch-honey-crisis/ttgo_ttf_mock · GitHub[^]

If it is only one font at only one size, it shouldn't be too hard!

It actually is if the characters overlap. At least doing it quickly, since at that point a straight blt is off the table.
And if you're not doing a straight blt and you can afford that, well then you have options.
Some people's options were to make a tool to render monospaced TTF to alpha blended antialiased bitmaps which could then be overlapped.
Mine was just to support truetype. But I may do the other thing too for platforms other than an ESP32. TTF is big.

I can really identify with that; many times when I was starting out as an engineer (who also programed what he designed) I was told that something can't be done. That just got me fired up, and I went ahead and did it. Don't ever tell me I can't, because I will do it.
Good job!

Hi all, I usually do the daily wordle on my Surface Pro, today I tried to access the NYT site from my laptop and got a blank page - WTF ?
Edit
Just tried it using Edge and it works so I guess it's a Firefox problem

What browser are you using? Chrome for me - and it works on desktop, Surface, and Android phone; I just checked.
Have you tried a different one?
CTRL+F5?
Is it a work lappie? Possibly with NYT domain blacklisted?

I was afraid to admit I had not yet done anything "Wordle" related other than reading about it on this forum. In the grand scheme of things ... (and in my job jar) ...
