I usually try to keep at least a couple of "candidate" clues ready in case I get lucky and win the CCC OTD. A couple of weeks ago I came up with a clue I liked, and I planned on using it today. But last night a worry struck me, and googling confirmed my fear; the answer has different spellings each side of the pond! The clue works perfectly well in either American or British English, but the number of letters differs.
In years of doing trying to do the CP CCC OTD I don't recall solutions with different spellings for the US/UK, so I chickened out of using it. But, it's a nice little clue (I thought) so here it is as a bonus:

Go on then, I'll take this one rather than the official one and thereby avoid having to do tomorrow's clue!

IMO, it should be WEASELS.
