I used to work for a Scotsman, who was a big Whisky fan.
I remember, we walked into a dark bar late one evening. He ordered Glen Fiddich 18yo all around. The bar tender pulled out four glasses, placed them on the bar, grabbed the bottle and poured 4 drinks.
My boss picked one up, looked at the colour, put it down and said "That's not Glen Fiddich".
Of course the bar tender argued, and to prove his claim, my boss promised to buy the whole bottle, if a glass poured from a newly open bottle was the same colour. The bar tender took the challenge.
A fresh bottle was grabbed from out back, opened, and poured into another glass. Under good light, you could see the colour was different.
I was standing right next to him, and swear he didn't smell it, just knew by the colour it wasn't right.
Some people know their whiskies too well...

I wouldn't mind being able to afford a few bottles of something like that; but that price is far beyond paying for quality and into conspicuous consumption. The latter is as elephanting stupid as lighting a cigar with a $100 bill.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

I have a couple of the 101 whiskies to try books - the author is rather down on the whole concept of these ultra expensive ones - mostly because of the packaging, they can be a superb drink.
Most I ever payed was £25 for a glass of 40 year old - I had two glasses - the hotel didn't add them to my room bill, which was nice

Yes there is, there is no downvoting now in the lounge. The rule needs updating.
