That's awesome that you made the choice and had the will power to do it. I have never smoked but I understand it is very hard to stop.
I also understand drinking grapefruit juice helps. Something in it supposedly helps to suppress the itchy desire that you get.
Great job.

It is indeed. I found that I needed to quit in such a manner that it gradually increasted the time that I could go without one. That way I dont get moments later on where Im dying to get one

I have known people that have quit cold turkey and others like you who have taken this approach. I guess the best option is to never start but I'm glad to see that you could quit. Good job.

You need to break the chemical addiction and the habit addiction. They hold sway over different people to different degrees.
As with anything in life, nobody will change anything they do unless they have a strong enough reason for doing so.
Once the reasons for not smoking are more important to you than smoking then you can stop, some people need a crutch or a plan to help, others do not.

Good reasoning, this applies to all habits, not just smoking.

The only time I would be caught smoking is if I had been set on fire.

You could argue that quitting then is even more acute

I said exactly the same thing until I was 17; then I smoked for 40 years.

This is probably the best decision you've ever made. Good luck and good health!

Well, I have now added some weight as a side effect, but I guess that addiction could be fixed too

The same thing happened to me when I quit (cold turkey) in '92. I used to smoke 1-2 cigarettes a day, but even that was too much. Today I can't imagine inhaling cigarette smoke!
I'm much healthier today than I was years ago. No dieting, just some simple lifestyle choices: I take the stairs whenever I can, eat small portions, drink about 2L of water a day, and make sure I get a balanced diet. I also never miss a yearly physical. So far so good, but I know I have to exercise more to stay limber as I age.
Good luck and good health!

Yay,
Now don't backslide with alcohol.
When I quit, a beer would send me back to smokes.
Good job.

I smoked ~20 a day for nearly 30 years. Then one day I decided I didn't like the taste so I stopped.
Be strong and, in a week or two, don't give in.

Cigaretts is like alcohol to me, there are where two reasons that I like them, and it wasnt the taste but rather the side effect

Indeed great for you. Remember even though you smoke a cigarette anytime down the line doesn't mean you again started it, continue it after that like you didn't smoke.

Stay with it man I know it's hard I smoked most of my teen/adult life and after 45 years of smoking you get out of breath tying your shoes. But I quit about 3-4 years ago and with extensive exercise I've gained some of my lung capacity back and I can do the things I want to do.
The problem with smoking is that you never lose the urge!
Good luck
