9/10, but surely the right answer here is 8am? 18km at 1.5 km/h will take 12 hours?
The Gotemba walking trail up Mount Fuji is about 9 kilometres (km) long. Walkers need to return from the 18 km walk by 8pm. Toshi estimates that he can walk up the mountain at 1.5 kilometres per hour on average, and down at twice that speed. These speeds take into account meal breaks and rest times. Using Toshi’s estimated speeds, what is the latest time he can begin his walk so that he can return by 8pm?

Sorry, missed "down at twice that speed..." Oops...

The text was a bit confusing as the "18km" imply the total of both ways, but each half was to be calculated differently.
Like pretty much every other question here it was more of a reading comprehension test than maths.
GOTOs are a bit like wire coat hangers: they tend to breed in the darkness, such that where there once were few, eventually there are many, and the program's architecture collapses beneath them. (Fran Poretto)

I think you are replying to the wrong message. I never said anything about what you said...

Thanks for posting this, it was a welcome distraction. Of course the 10/10 helped (yes, I used a calculator, why do the heavy lifting yourself if you have a crane handy )

Got a 10 out of 10. Was pretty simple, but it should have been simple for someone that majored in Mathematics in college.

Lazy.....
Too lazy to take a math test willingly to see how good I am at math.

I refuse to take part is such a travesty. Imagine being tested by a country that pluralizes Math and sells weight in stones in monetary units of pounds ... it's just crazy.

I used to be good in math, and let it be that way...

I looked at the first problem only, so apologies if I am jumping to conclusions, but this question was what I expected. I am rather fed-up with people calling basic numeracy and trivial logic problems 'mathematics'. OK, you can solve some of these problems with elementary algebra, and they do involve 'mathematical' skills of some sort. However, as someone who has studied quantum mechanics I would say that mathematics is solving things like differential equations and complex algebra. I am not saying that trivial numeracy or algebra is easy, because some people can solve these problems faster than others. However, these types of questions only test one very narrow and elementary mathematical skill. Incidentally, solving many types of equations requires as much intuition as logic. Schrodinger arrived at his wave-equation by intuitive deduction and not by logical proof. Mathematics is so much more and the most important skills of mathematics are not tested by this type of question.

I had two wrong. With the first question, I resolved to not actually do the math, just answer with the first thing that comes to mind. (Too simple to take seriously.) I really have no idea how I managed to get the engine capacity wrong.

It still seems M$ want Apple's market share. I am friends with a lot of big Linux/Unix users who are anti-PC but they have all been left with the feeling that a touch screen works for a phone/tablet not a desktop and having one OS to rule them all will leave it big and unwieldy as it has everything for all uses, I mean when do you need an Ethernet port when using your mobile, equally when do you need GPS for your desktop (Monday mornings...), I am of the opinion of horses for courses. Whats the hive mind say...
[Update] does any do dev work, not testing, coding on anything aside from a laptop/desktop????[/Update]
