You think he owns NASA?
You looking for sympathy?
You'll find it in the dictionary, between sympathomimetic and sympatric
(Page 1788, if it helps)

So if you own it then it is SPAM? That is your criteria?
There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

Everything is spam to anyone who doesn't like it. I tend to skip all the daily OTDs and only go for the irregular OTDs (such as my own).

It appears that I'm not the only one who thinks that.
RyanDev wrote: So, how is your APOD not SPAM?
Not my site - I stand to gain nothing by it and it was not my very first post. I was here for many years before doing that and it appears that one or two enlightened souls actually like it.

No, just very earnest with some odd ideas. Pretty much like the rest of us.

3 page :P, just learning ASP.NET MVC 4(hence bootstrap template) and RacvenDB. In my opinion Id rather make up a product and build it rather than build a guest book. Just an exercise in the grand scheme of things. Nice syntax highlighting for all languages that can be added. A nice editor to add code. And more to come.

I'm sure it will be a great site and I'm sure you're an amazing developer and I wish you all the luck with your career and you can put whatever you want in your sig. It is simply considered poor form to make your first post a blatant advert for your web site (regardless of what it might be doing).

That's great: write an article; that would be better suited for here: bear in mind that this will all be forgotten history by tomorrow and it is unlikely that anyone will go to look at your site whereas if you were to write an article about a particularly cool thing that the site does or how you solved a coding problem, that would have more life and draw more views.

I really wanted an opinion on the idea, what people thought it looked like etc. Not fussed on driving traffic and people not using it. If it does start attracting, it wont be due to this thread.

It just looks like a bootstrap site and the default one at that: nothing special, nothing wonderfully different.

Thanks, I may give it a little more. Design is something I struggle with however I am trying to improve.

I don't think it's spam, for what it's worth.

I agree. We all link to our personal websites in sigs and posts whenever it suits us.

There's no rule against that. If his site was interesting, we would have said nice things about it and welcomed him. Otherwise, most everyone immediately berates him. Best option is to ignore him or comment on his site if actually interested. Aside from that, he'll either contribute to this site or he'll leave.

It's an unwritten rule: just etiquette: it's like walking into a room full of strangers and shouting "Look how wonderful I am" rather than trying to meet a few people and make friends.
Besides, all I actually did was point out that his registration option was limited.

I am rather wonderful. To be honest, Ill sooner contribute to SO as I just find it much easier to navigate etc. I do really appreciate some of the articles on this site however. Perhaps Ill write a post so that I ain't called n00b anymore. Cause that pla1n hurts.

As are we all: but you wouldn't walk in to a room full of complete strangers and start a conversation by telling them that.
Nathan Smith wrote: Cause that pla1n hurts
See, it shouldn't - everyone is a tyro at some point so learn from it and grow. You're probably smart but you're now in a world where everyone is smart (well, most of us. Well, that guy over there). You get the point? Take it slow.

Considering he's using it to learn and that was his first post, he hasn't had time to learn the etiquettes. I agree this is a faux pas, I just don't agree with putting someone down for not knowing better. We do have many young people on this site, and older newbies, who at first new nothing about what's done right. Everytime someone posts a programming question here the lynch mob convenes to remind them of the bolded text on top which most newbies, myself included at one point, don't read at first. No big deal in my opinion.

True, but this was all in regards to another post you posted and everyone piled on. We all have our two cents that we have just got to share.
