Either way, I'm curious to find out what it is.

I first used it, out of the box, in VS 4, then in VS 6, and then (I think) in VS 2003. Somewhere along the line the preview form button went away or became hidden. If it's the latter, I'd sure like to know where MS hid it.
It was useful to see how the form would look in the current version without having to add the glue. It was especially useful in showing a customer/client what a page would look like. Much better than PowerPoint. Too the customer/client could suggest changes to the form and they could be made on the spot. If the revised form didn't meet expectations, then tweaking could also be done on the spot.
Great productivity tool!

Have you looked behind the fridge?
It's the last place anybody looks, so it's almost guaranteed to be there.
Have a look, I'll wait.
You looking for sympathy?
You'll find it in the dictionary, between sympathomimetic and sympatric

Is it in 2013? I haven't seen a version 2008 in like 500 years.

I think this is the "Test" button that I remember from way back when (VC 1.52, Win32 days).

Yes, something like that.

I remember something exactly like that, but I think it was for MFC, not Windows Forms.

Never did MFC only WinForms. It was a feature of the VS Designer.

I remember it from VS6 but that was C++ MFC, and yes, very handy. I use VS2005 frequently (WinForms) but I don't recall it being there. If you've used in WinForms it must be in VS2003 as you've said. I pretty much get the form ready and test it by running it before any of the controls are wired up (except the "Close" button.)

Hmm, I don't recall seeing in WinForms. I used it a lot during MFC development.

Windows misplaced almost all of their buttons not long ago.

As the CTO and a professional at jet-messaging, I would appreciate it if you stopped spamming Code Project with thinly veiled advertisements of your products.

I just emailed the company with his behavior. It rather disgusts me, the same message on several articles dealing with XML/XSD.

The posts I'm referring to are all dated today, Aug 26 2014. Of course, the articles themselves (like mine) are ancient.

Since I stopped developing almost exclusively on VAX/VMS, I have worked with Microsoft based systems. To that end, they have been part of keeping me gainfully employed.
I don't necessarily like or agree with everything they do, but I do like getting a paycheck.
