I have a table of numbers on a spreadsheet, let's say, 10 rows and 12 columns.
I want to draw a line in diagonal from left bottom corner to right top corner.
How can I do that? (not do it on a chart)
in Excel version 5.0, it has such function to draw a trendline directly on this table.
diligent hands rule....

1.) Maybe not the right place to ask that. Anyway don't care too much about that
2.) Quote: 'How can I do that? (not do it on a chart)'
When not in a chart, where else?
3.) Quote: 'in Excel version 5.0, it has such function to draw a trendline directly on this table.'
Now we are back in a chart, right? Where a trend line can be shown other than in a chart?
4.) Trend line exists also in the current version of excel.
5.) 10 rows and 12 columns means something like 11 functions. What is your idea to get _one_ trend over 11 functions?
Only my two cents

my question comes from an old investment book and it used old terms in Excel version 5.0.
So I assume only gurus might know this answer...

Without answering, as this is the wrong forum, here's a hint. You want to draw a line? In Excel 2003 (the latest version I use) there's a Drawing toolbar. You might find an equivalent "ribbon" but as you've not said what version you're using, we can't really advise further.

thanks for your info! it is worthy for me to post here to get your answer
BTW: based on your hint, I found what I want. it is not exactly as a drawing trendline function. actually it turns into another object...

when you answer these types of question in the bloody Lounge, you encourage more of this.
It's not exactly a programming question. It's no different really than The Lounge[^] or The Lounge[^].
(And it's not even like there's an Excel CP forum to ask it in)
I actually don't care, personally.
However new members come here all the time in the Lounge and they get scorched, burned, and sometimes humiliated by other members on the site for even attempting to ask a technical (not programming) or programming question.
However, existing, and sometimes veteran members get away with it here, because of course, why the bloody hell not.
Excel questions are a technical question, and they belong in Q and A and not in the Lounge.
Out of genuine curiosity, and no intent to be obtuse, which forum would you suggest? I've been here over 13 years but wouldn't know where to ask an Excel question... Doesn't fit in any of the other places I can see, and if I were to ask this question in (say) General Programming / COM I'd get told to move it elsewhere as it's not COM; it's not VBA, it's not database etc.. etc.. Even the forums list page[^] doesn't mention either Excel or Spreadsheets
there is no forum for excel.
no forum
that is what Q & A is for: https://www.codeproject.com/Questions/ask.aspx[^]
My entire point in all of this is that if we allow the OP to post excel questions in the Lounge, then we need Chris to change the rules for the Lounge and let ALL users ask technical and programming questions in the Lounge. It's that simple.
