Once you have tried it, it will be nice to see a follow-up post from you, with your findings / conclusions.

Hmm reckon it would be worth while?, I would assume that most have backup planes/software that they are comfortable with.

Speaking for myself: I would like to see it. I may want to dump my version of Acronis due to the Western Digital constraint, but no way am I going to pay for their product that is supposed to work with any make drive!

I have 3 WD drives and downloaded the Acronis WD version and it wouldn't run either. A little window came up and read Attach and WD drive to continue but no drives listed and of course there was a link to buy the full product. Uh let me think about that for a minute...I don't think so!

My version was from 2010. It may be the last version that worked well?

I wish I still had that version. If I went back through backups I my accidentally have a copy but I'm sure the 240 character product key is long gone!

You can get the product key from your account on the Acronis website.

Thanks for the heads up.
I started using a product several years ago to keep passwords and product keys as a precaution!

Thanks I'll check it out!
Seems like I tried it a long time ago, last time I was looking for backup software.

DriveImageXML. It's free for non-commercial use.
I use it every two weeks on my Win-7 machines. I haven't had to do a full disk restore (lucky me), but have browsed into the image to copy out individual files and folders.

I used to use that a lot!
I worked in a lot of small R&D shops and on a limited budget I used whatever was free because the companies I worked for usually didn't put out for frivolous stuff like software! What the hell have I got a software team for?

We adopted a quote by Konstantin Jireček that I used to use quite a bit with the sales people;
“We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, for so long, with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.”

If it is an alternative to Acronis you seek, then you might want to try Ghost (google it with imaging ).
Tough i reccomend you stick with acronis, which works better in my opinion.
Life's like a nose, you've got to get out of it whats in it!

Believe it or not, the "File History" utility built into Windows 8.1 works just fine. It's reliable and just works in the background. You don't even have to administer the thing once it's set up. Just make sure all your content is in one of the four storage hives (Documents, Pictures, etc...). I'm an independent developer myself and it's made backup of the system absolutely a no-brainer.

I've used Acronis True Image for years. They used to be a lot better at fixing issues. I stopped using it at version 2013 but that version still works fine for me. I never had a need to upgrade and then I added a home server to my network and allowed it to handle backups. It's too bad to see a formerly successful product go down hill.

I'm a lone developer and I use a single desktop. Attached to my desktop is a Netgear NAS with 4x2 TB disks.
I have used StorageCraft for almost 3 years. I have used StorageCraft to restore whole hard-disks as well as restore selected directories and files. StorageCraft automatically backs up my projects directory 8 times a day and has never failed me.
Prior to discovering StorageCraft, I've used Nero, Acronis as well as several others that I've forgotten about.
About 18 months ago I had an issue (I honestly can't remember what it was) and I rang them. Their support was immediate and solved my issue within a couple of hours. They also took the time to explain some of the intricacies of the product as clearly I needed a bit of extra help
I've never used EaseUS.
If you chose StorageCraft then all I can say is that you won't be disappointed.
