I did, a bit - and like nearly everyone else decided it was nasty.
But this is what has to "save Microsoft" - and first impressions count, a lot. So far, it's most of the nasty bits of win 8 without the good bits of win 7...

I do agree Windows 7 was best OS ever (as far as my usage of Windows is concerned), but Windows 8 is better than Windows 10. In many ways, indeed there are no good things in this installment. But, Microsoft is no longer what it was intended to be when Bill found Microsoft. *take a deep breath, and*

After W8.x which I hated at the beginning... learned to love it after recognizing that also very old borland runs without Problems (less than on W7)... W10 is pretty ok for me.
But be Aware, I took the Chance to "learn" W8.x for one year

While in some ways I feel your angst - c'mon! You're whinging about an *operating system* because you will have to spend some tie to get you *wallpaper pictures* sorted out?!
task bar on both monitors? Daft(ish) On OSX there's a task bar on both but only visible on the active monitor - sort of auto-hidden until the mouse goes down there - I find that a good solution so turning on auto-hide might be a solution for you?

Yes.
Because this is (some of) the user experience that turned normal users (rather than developers) off Win 8.
And the idea was that this was "7 with knobs on" not "8.1 toned down a bit".
I'll stay with it for a while at least, but... This needs too be good or MS has some real problems.

Getting a taskbar in all the monitors is super useful when using the mouse you want to activate an application and you are not in the first monitor... but I've read what you said about different monitors... Then I don't know, it can be disabled (as you say) so it should not be a big problem I've installed actual multiple monitors and it works like charm to get this in Windows 7.
Regarding the "twatter" issue you should be able to right click any tile and select Unpin (or something similar) to get it removed.
Hope this helps OG!

OriginalGriff wrote: Not so on Win10: Bits of each all over the place. Have to find a replacement for "Dual Wallpaper"
I downloaded a theme from the MS page - It somehow manages to display different images on all three (two external, one laptop) monitors.
OriginalGriff wrote: Why do I have a task bar on both monitors?
I read something (forget where) that there were people who demanded this.
It doesn't really bug me. In fact, don't even care.
OriginalGriff wrote: What happened to Aero? Everything looks so flat, and dull and ugly...
I actuall find that more clean and like it.
OriginalGriff wrote: OK...the tiled start menu I will probably get used to. But why can't I right click and get rid of Twatter for example?
And when I go looking for it, why is the font in the settings pages twice the size of the font everywhere else?
I don't see Twitter anywhere on my system...
Not even searching for it shows it.

That one confused me too! There shouldn't be any problem with unpinning it from Start or removing it from the All Apps list in any case.

I have an external GPS navigation always plugged in my car dashboard which I rarely use it, except when I have to take a drive to a vacation or something. One of the reason I started using was to give me a warning sound when I exceed the speed limit ( already paid heft fine for 20+ over the limit ) and to give me "live" traffic updates for road blocks and jams. This "Live" is a joke because it never helps me avoid it. It shows/updates the map after I am in the middle of the jam. But that's not my rant.
For past few days, I have been getting the updated "live" message of traffic jam much ahead and asks if new alternate route need to be chosen. I being "smart" and assuming machine to be "dumb" ignore the warning and stay with the route. The Irony is that the Jam is there but in opposite direction. The traffic is blocked in opposite direction but it indicates my route as blocked. It has happened 3 times in a row. Is there any secret settings I should take care or this device is just kaput.
I am just thinking of dumping this piece in the nearest autobahn exit.
cheers,
Super

I had to use my iPhone as a GPS when I was away last week. I tried Google Maps but could not get it to work the way I wanted it to. So I bit the bullet and used the oft criticized Apple Maps. I have to say they were excellent. I'm surprised that there is still a third-party GPS business with the proliferation of smartphones. Do you have access to waze [^] where you are? That is also supposed to be pretty good.

Don't know what you are using.
I've used WAZE and NOKIA HERE in my Android and both work wonderfully well, WAZE is better to avoid jams and special conditions, and HERE is telling you the allowed speed and the current speed and tells you if you are over that... This combined with Radar Beep makes wonders.
They work really well, I prefer NOKIA HERE though.
Oh, and both are completely free.

Then your bets are only upgrade it and send reports to the technical support or just throw it and get a new one...
the only bad thing with the cell phone GPS systems is when somebody calls you just in the middle of one complicated turn/path, but apart of that... anyway if you don't take it with you then it doesn't work, no matter the brand or model...

Contrary to readings given by AMI (the Alanis Morrisette Irony Meter) that is not irony. A replacement is thoroughly recommended!
