Really? You got that out of my detailed, reasoned argument? Final fact, then I'm done. The RNLI is a charity. That is not going to change. Not under a Conservative Government, a New Labour Government, an Old Labour Government, a whatever Labour is under Jeremy Corbyn Government, an SNP Government (can't be ruled out!) or any other. You don't have to like it. You do have to lump it or move to a country where the work that the RNLI does is wholly state funded ... if there is one!

You're probably right. I think Britain probably is on it's way out really, that's why I was asking about other places to live/work the other week. It's like we're doing the junkyard sale - "everything's for sale, everything must go, make an offer before we close up for good".
How do you know so much about swallows? Well, you have to know these things when you're a king, you know.

You never know. There's always someone pining for the fjords! There were quite a lot of things that I used to have fun with on W3.1 that have got all serious and dull as the years go by. Hmm, where did you say that shop was again?

Somewhere at home I still have an 8086 Assembler for MSDos 3.1 manual (and a PC I can still use it on)

Sometimes I'm still trying to convince myself I shouldn't have thrown out my OS/2 programming books.

Wow those are fairly new, last time I went the books were written in hieroglyphs.

Hi All,
Any one else noticed this, I got some periodic update for my desk top yesterday and it resized my full screen so when I click on maximize the right hand edge (drag bar) disappears. The old method of setting the full screen doesn't appear to work now.
|
|
|
|
|
Well, are we talking about full-screen which never had any reserved real estate or maximising? Can't say I've noticed any difference myself. Perhaps a screen grab would help us make more sense of your question?

I was wondering if anybody else on Win 10 clicked the full screen dohicky between the X and the - and saw all the drag bars disappear?? not a major whine but odd I only noticed it after I had an update yesterday

Are you using the "Metro" button - it's not supposed to be full screen per-se IIRC - think tablet friendly / the old "full screen metro apps"
C# has already designed away most of the tedium of C++.

Does anyone here use the free wordpress?
I'm thinking of giving up my web site and just using Wordpress instead.
Would it be good for programmer/electronic hobbyist?

I heard rumours maintaining it is a real PITA.
Everytime my coworker needs to do wordpress-related work for one of our customers i can hear him cursing...
luckily for him that is seldom.

If you're planning on using code samples you might have an issue getting them properly formatted. I looked into if this was possible, signed up, then realised in order to install plug-ins like code formatting you need to pay.

I'm using it for my programming website. No problems so far.

Thanks Pete that's what I was looking to answer. I don't keep my site up like I should and there's no reason to really have it, plus I can't spare the funds right now.

I have been using free wordpress for 3 years and it's too easy to post code in there.
Just wrap your code in these tags:
your code here
The language (or lang) parameter controls how the code is syntax highlighted. The following languages are supported:
actionscript3
bash
clojure
coldfusion
cpp
csharp
css
delphi
erlang
fsharp
diff
groovy
html
javascript
java
javafx
matlab (keywords only)
objc
perl
php
text
powershell
python
r
ruby
scala
sql
vb
xml
If the language parameter is not set, it will default to “text” (no syntax highlighting).

Glad it helped
Just let me know, if you face any issue while using Wordpress. Initially you might get some issues figuring out things like where to write a new post, where are the new comments, but later on you will get used to it. The wordpress dashboard is simple to understand.
Cheers!

I plan on using the free version, will I find after signing up that it's not usable for what I want?

Hi Mike!
Are you planning to host WordPress yourself on a dedicated server or a VM?
I tried it on my VM at 1&1 running Windows Server 2003 (root access) and gave up after much pulling my hair out and gnashing of teeth. An ex-colleague of mine said it was a cinch setting it up on his unix VM which kinda figures, as this is how this thingamajig was developed. I think it was PHP, MySQL and Apache Webserver.
What are you're plans regarding this?
Cheers!

Manfred I wasn't planning on hosting it myself was going to use their servers. I guess I haven't researched it enough yet. Still trying to make up my mind if I want to let my site go or not.
