You've never had boiled bacon (i.e a joint of)? Food of the gods my friend, especially as prepared by SWMBO.

Well, that's a new bug - the main link is OK, but the "new window" part has dropped the final "l".

I was back home in Oz a few weeks ago and the first thing I did was hit the local for a decent sausage roll. You know - one of the really cheap ones from the nasty corner bakery. So good. So bad, but so good.
Just up the road is a French cafe who happens to do the best sausage rolls I've ever had, bar none.
One day I'm going to just setup a cafe here in Canadia and teach the poor inmates what they are missing out on.
cheers

You could do some research in New Zealand. The roadside shop selling superb homemade pies and sausage rolls is a matter of cultural pride there.

If you can import 'proper' sausage rolls, can you also export 'proper' poutine?
I think this is one of those... if you know, you know, but hard to properly explain.
Grew up in Northern Ontario... poutine at the livestock auction was a treat to be looked forward to.

I've lived here long enough to not try and define "proper" poutine. Quebec, Ontario and Nova Scotia all claim they do it better, and more proper. And like grammar, the definition of "good" can get a little hazy.

And therein lies the rub with sausage rolls... which is 'proper'?
But, I still miss poutine...

If it leaves your mouth tasting flour-ey, if you do rank burps the rest of the day, if you feel slightly quesy after eating one, but if you want to go right out and have another one then it's Proper.
Any recommendations for some good poutine in Tronno? There's some poutineries that have popped up but they seem too slick to be trustworthy.

We have them here in SA. Not sure if the British ones are different, but the ones we have here aren't particularly nice.

If you buy 'em wrapped in plastic, they are grim. Really nasty, with pastry that sticks to the roof of your mouth, and meat with no texture because it's...well, you don't want to think about what's in the meat.
But fresh baked, they are a delight!
I do 'em with good quality sausage meat, a little breadcrumbs (to soak up the fat as it cooks out of the meat), and sage, all wrapped in "proper" puff pastry. Oh yeah! Nomnomnomnom...
Damnit! I'll have to make some tomorrow now...

Never heard of them.
Looks good.
Dominos pizza sucks, everyone knows it, but they manage to stay in business, even with all the great mom-and-pop pizzerias around.

Well, I have to admit, it has been a couple of years since I last ate anything from Dominos.
With that said, I usually like to give my money to the locals first, before I give it to the big companies/corporations...usually. However, there are exceptions.

Just surprised that something so common here, is not known about there. It's a bit like discovering we don't what a Hot Dog or a Burger is for example.

I don't no. But that doesn't prove the point because you knew I wouldn't know what they were. the difference with Sausage rolls is I thought they were a world-wide thing.
