I'm thinking that we'll never see that...

K'san, the last of his kind in this system, watched the destruction from his small outpost on the small moon circling the fourth planet in the system. The Geracht Supremacy had destroyed the fifth planet utterly, leaving gravel debris in its wake. His own doom, now only minutes away, was from a piece of that debris.
K'san wondered if the hominids on the third planet would have the chance to grow and wonder at the crater that would be all that was left of him and his guardianship...

Thanks! That was a piece of microfiction I pulled out my head.
Of course, given the amount of science fiction I've read, it's a hodge-podge of any number of plot lines.

Bugger, I'm about read out on Baen. Hard SF is a little difficult to come by these days, they all seem to want to go fantasy garbage.

Agreed. I try to mix reading new stuff (when I have it) and re-reading old stuff I haven't read in a while. For example, I have a complete set of Heinlein, but I had 'lost' part of it in our last move 13 years ago. This past summer I cleaned out the attic and found it. I'm going to re-read all of them this winter.

Shouldn't that be Phobos to Phoboi?

If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

Did you hear that a new dinosaur has been found, with excellent teeth: the Flossiraptor.

Is that related to the dinosaur that prefers to take it in the rear?
The Megasoreass?
Sorry.

Isn't Megasoreass related to the dinosaur with the insatiable sexual appetite, Likaladdapus?

Does anyone here have one? No one seems to be posting a benchmark of its vpgatherdd (and friends) performance, not even instlatx64.atw.hu[^]! If someone could test it, that would be great. I can write the benchmark if necessary, but that would probably be an iterative process because it would (probably) require experimentation (unless it looks like nothing has changed compared to Haswell).

Tom's Hardware "Skylake: Intel's Core i7-6700K And i5-6600K" August 5, 2015 [^] has extensive benchmarks.
I seem to see a bunch including one from AnandTech, and one on some kind of bench-marking: [^].
This article on Ars Technica, a rant about SkyLake offers no equivalent to the BroadWell Core i7 5775C, was interesting: [^].
You can find late-breaking info on Tom's Hardware: [^] ... quality may vary.
I'm interested in benchmarks only once every five years or so when I go to upgrade "

Yes but they're very broad and don't address gather performance. I did just now find an entry in Intels optimization manual, but it would still be better to do a field test, as it were.

After a couple of long nights going into the wee hours and feeling wrecked I finally finished a bunch of code, compiled, tweaked a couple of obvious errors then fired it up for the first time.
I now need to add images to the forums because this is how I feel: http://memegenerator.net/instance/60301643[^]
