I know that I'm far too poor for you to consider living anywhere near me.
Weren't you looking Nottingham way recently or did I dream that? You've never struck me as a big enthusiast of gun crime so I cannot imagine why you would.

As our budgie isn't too big, we can't afford dan-saf so we're having to look North and West [but not as far as Northwest and the hubcap stealing scouse b'tards]
Prices are funny, some places we thought would be expensive are relatively cheap and others are way overpriced. My take on it is that prices go up for any reason, but nothing brings them down again. Rural is good, city centre is good, no shops or too many shops push up the price, new build or old plots are both at a premium. The housing market in the UK is like a Sunday morning dockside hooker after the fleet just landed...

What, like Buckinghamshire?

Mostly it's a question of trend. Near Turin (Italy) going North small houses cost a freaking lot while going South the prices tend to lower. Despite the climate and terrain being much better on the South side, as on the North it is highly probable that when it snows you'll be locked home due to high pendence hills and higher precipitations. Also public transportation is way less dense and organized, the humudity is barely tolerable and the houses are ancient.
But North is trendy because it's closer to Sestriere, Bardonecchia and Ceresole, notable skiing locations. Also the first escapees from the city moved there and created a huge mystique about the place while almost everyone who moved South downplayed a lot - mostly to not being invaded by city-dwellers. Yes we of Asti are a bit aloof and wary...

Not just Luton but the whole of Bedfordshire is being avoided due to high levels of crapacity.

I did take a look at the prices of pipelines.
So I wondered, who's living in Fife?

Welcome! Your moving to Israel would probably increase the sanity levels in both the U.K. and Israel.
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

Sadly not Israel. My wife spent four years there before we met though and keeps nagging that we visit at some point.

OK it's not me then. Thought it might be as I knew you were looking at one job down here, but I see you've ruled further South out.

OK then. Because I can't be bothered doing what I'm supposed to be doing.
You've said it is a city, you've said you are looking North and West (don't know where you currently are so assuming NW of London), not as far north as Manchester or Liverpool, in England, further than Buckinghamshire, and you can pronounce it. Was that all the clues?
Birmingham - surely not.
Chester - Hollyoaks (may not be representative, but it is all I know about the place)
Coventry - even uglier than Birmingham
Derby - consistently one of the best places to live in the UK (apparently)
Gloucester - silly accents
Hereford - as above but closer to Wales
Leicester - might as well be in Luton
Lichfield - nothing here but pubs and restaurants
Oxford - I can't afford to park there, let alone live.
Stoke-on-Trent - no-one lives in Stoke, they merely exist
Wolverhampton - ha ha ha
Worcester - quite nice when it's above water
Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.
