Never used it, but Google's Pixel is supposedly the number 1 phone for running Android.

I'm sure it is - but AFAIK it doesn't support ANT+ out of the box. That's kinda the most important thing I need (after a screen, of course)

I'm using the S7 Edge and I love it. It's an absolute pleasure to use and it's been updated on a very regular basis.

Be sure to take a close look at the specs, most carriers have any AM/FM receiver capability removed or disabled to push consumers to streaming media over their network so they can charge them for it.

Unfortunately the phone will need to be in a mounting bracket and case so dongles won't work.

Using a galaxy A5, does both ant & ble - small, decent battery life that can manage a full day ride. (Trick for any phone, if not streaming movies/TV set to 3G instead of 4G - saves a ton on battery drain.)
Not weatherproof, but I just tuck it into a ziplock and jam that into the phone holder if it rains. (Ibera bar mounted phone case; detachable but really hangs on well - even through two accidents that left me limping.)
Had the same thought after my old polar died: why pay $500 plus for a "bicycle computer" when get the same thing on a free phone app? (using strava - crap for training but fine for single day capture of routes, distance and heart stats/charts - cadence too I believe but not tried.)

I'm going to be using it with Xert[^] so I can experiment a little with strain vs stress training. I'll need to have the unit visible on the bars at all times.
The A5 looks a little bigger than the iPhone 6. I have a standard 100mm stem but I need room at the front for lights as well (lots of pre-dawn riding). Maybe I should just ride my bike into the store and try it on. How could they not want something as beautiful as this[^] brightening up their dull beige stores?

I have a Sony Xperia Z5 and they are while waterproof (and that has been tested by my kids well!!) they get hot while running heavy graphics based apps.

So you're saying I shouldn't play video games on it or watch YouTube while hurtling down a descent at 70kmh?

I would never say that.

in a nutshell yes.
But my Sony Xperia Z5 also gets warm when I use a WIFI Analyzer app too.

So if I play games and I'm riding in Winter then it's a good thing because I'll have a hand warmer handy?
Excellent. These sub-zero rides are starting to hurt.

Ok, Leslie, then you might as well build a replica of the Apollo flight computer.[^]
The language is JavaScript. that of Mordor, which I will not utter here
This is Javascript. If you put big wheels and a racing stripe on a golf cart, it's still a f***ing golf cart.

Was the AGC a single purpose computer (only able to run that code with special instruction set ) ?

I believe it was specifically created for the Apollo program but may also have been used in later spacecraft / aircrafts. That said, in theory I guess you could write non-navigation code on it too

Shut up. I was one of those toddlers and I reckon I was 15 or so when you were born.
