Man, that's absolutely politically uncorrect!
PS: I told the 2nd to an aquaintance of mine face to face. He ran off crying, then came back after a while - I snarked him again for being such a snowflake. He ran off again...

Yeah some people can't handle reality. One guy posted some whining yesterday because he asked if some code he found would fulfill the requirements of his homework assignment. I told him to try himself, and that is all I said, and find out himself and he didn't like that. He wanted someone here to waste their time checking his homework assignment for him so he wouldn't have to. I guess "try it yourself" is insulting to a number of people.

I had to train my (lovably) girlfriend for the programming classes (she came from an entirely different background and was studying for a barely related degree) and even she, a normally thick skinned person, took offence at "try it yourself".
Many people just don't get that programming, like writing, painting, playing instruments, fixing stuff, shooting, fighting, speaking a language, etc can only be improved by experience and time. Try it, fail it, try again, bang your head, curse, hate it, try again... until you either give up or are expert enough to navigate out of most situations.

I am not sure if to laugh.Show() or else to cry.Show()... maybe both, but that can't be written..

I agree. Beginning developers should already know how to code.
There are two kinds of people in the world: those who can extrapolate from incomplete data.
There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

At least be able to look up syntax, read documentation, and some basics like looping, branching and testing.
Without that knowledge one is merely begging for the right words to "insert" into the existing code. Imagine your surgeons being trained like developers.

Respect, yes; but it would be quite the effort to convey all the beginning-concepts to someone who is writing the next FaceBook. It is also no longer "a question", but rather a "plea for help".
The site focuses on questions, not on introducing concepts to people who never touched a computer.

We have an official set of CP comments for that class of help request.
These are used as links for the answers.
One I would appreciate on this hoped-for list:

Is this normal for people's messages to be flagged for moderation as potential spam, or did I do something that has put me on some sort of blacklist? It's kind of annoying as from what I can tell, I have not ever tried to advertise anything on here.
|
|
|
|
|
Well, not sure what message you're referring to so not enough context.
As to whether it's normal... wouldn't say normal but it happens. There is a voting system though so you'd have to get flagged by multiple users for a message to be removed. Not sure what it takes to get booted though.

Just today, I did "This week's survey" about being a game programmer, and posted an answer to one of the discussions in there. Basically the answer was a "yeah I used to do that too!" kind of answer, which got flagged for moderation. Then I posted my own discussion giving a little detail about the kind of work I used to do as a game programmer, which also got flagged. As far as I know, I did not use any language that might imply spam or anything inappropriate.

If you're not actually spamming, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
