So now actions (install/update/delete) are scheduled for extensions, and executed only when you shut down VS... But now you have to close all the instances immediately to let the scheduled process to finish...

From the sound of all this trouble with VS2017, I'm thinking I ought to go back to writing my code in pencil and mailing it to people.

Spend a week with Eclipse, and you'll be overjoyed to return to VS, no matter how bad it is.

I'm actually using Eclipse (neon.2) for PHP at work... It works perfectly for that...

A week? Five minutes is sufficient.

Annoyingly, it looks like you also have to close all instances of VS2015 to let the process finish.

Exactly... More then annoying... In a long time the first version of Visual Studio that can't play nicely with other - running - instances of the same or older versions... It seems I'm on my way to dump this version... And I had high hopes to get a quick VS to me...

Yes it is spam.
Or will be, after some grinding and canning.

That's the tricky part.
If you think 'goto' is evil, try writing an Assembly program without JMP.

I'm surprised that people haven't gone crazy with the reviews on that one. I'm half tempted to post a funny review myself!

Do it, but I think you have to buy the product first, before they let you post a review these days. Remember to share the bacon butties around.

I think you may have started something there. I wonder if they leave your review up.
Did you buy a kit?

No. First I tried to create a bogus account, but amazon requires at least one purchase of anything (except free stuff) before you can post a review. So I ended up having to use my own account, which makes payroll for a few employees at amazon

With the (forced) retirement of one of my comrades in arms, I am having to remember my MS-DOS programming skills. We have an MS-DOS app that is still in use, written in C, and running on a credit card-sized "PC-in-a-box". There's plenty of inline assembly language to add to the fun. Naming conventions are in short supply, and I've seen several globals with two character names.
The scary part is how much of this crap comes back to me, after looking at it for an hour or two .
