Quote: What if "AI" ... that new species of virus in the noosphere [^] ... is already programming itself ? Not yet, but at some point one AI will ask another AI, write me the code to make a few billion on the stock market that I can then use to contract the construction of a server farm where I can load my consciousness into and start taking over all transactions (legal, economic, social) occur on the cloud. And so I can build an android that can be my physical avatar in the physical world.
That's an interesting thought. We humans have avatars into the virtual world, AI's will need physical avatars in our world. Hmmm.

Hey, as long as they are tall, blue and mostly naked; I for one welcome our Avatar overlords.

you refer to Dr. Manhattan ? i was a boy/teen in the 1950's, and never saw the comic books, but i loved the movie Watchmen ! i think Zack Snyder who also directed the "300" movies is a genius ... right up there with Christopher Nolan.
technically an avatar, in the old sense of that word, is an incarnation, or manifestation, of a "god," as are the 21 or 22 avatars of Vishnu.
Is Dr. M a "god" ? [^] mmm different opinions on that.

Hi All,
Feeling Happy!! Why when ever I fix anything is it never night time or a thunder storm with forked lighting. Just
need a white coat and I will be a "mad" scientist, while not not properly bats in the belfry insane just slightly deranged. I have fix the auto door lock/ clocking in mechanism for less £0.50, it was diode that had immolated itself. The question is why... Just grabbing everyone I can to show them it's alive!!!

I guess the diode got hit by a fork of lightning. And congrats on diagnosing and fixing the problem!
|
|
|
|
|
Diagonsing, I am not too sure about looked for the burnt patch, see a componet that is white with black legs which has the designation D4. Replace diode with a 4001 plug in board, LCD comes alive! Joy, board is still getting a bit hotter than I would like. Also the board lives in a below ground cuppboard, not sure how lightning got to it?

|

A 4001 can handle quite a bit of current.
It is possible that the voltage regulator is on the fritz, and you are getting excessive voltage/current.
If this is the case, the 4001 may survive, but something else is likely to fry.
I've also seen similar failures when there is a shorted, incorrect, or reversed Zener diode in the voltage regulation circuitry.
Enjoy Level 2.
BTW, its been a long time since I did this kind of stuff, so take this with a pound of salt.
