Some would say (and I mostly agree) that Tom Cruise is one of the last remaining great film makers (not just an actor).
I enjoyed Top Gun: Maverick and I look forward to seeing the latest MI movie too.
As a side note: I am looking forward to seeing Oppenheimer as well. Christopher Nolan is a great film maker too. I have seen some of his movies and they are good.

I agree. He knows how to make movies that click.
Top Gun Mav is an A+ movie as is MI.
I am planning on seeing Oppenheimer, as well.

He's one of the last few actual movie stars we got left. Nowadays, it's all about comic book heroes and swapping peeps in and out on a whim... like we won't be happy until the 50th person redoes Batman with someone new.

Batman Face/Off!
(In the tradition of a remake incorporating a remake of another film. Face/Off with Danny DeVito's Joker. Schwarzenegger as Batman. So it could also take off of Twins. )

I wrote Tom Cruise off, and all of his "work", when he started disparaging those with mental illnesses and the treatments for such, saying that all that's needed is vitamins and exercise to fix it all. He's no different than Gweneth Paltrow and her predatory woo bullshit.

My wife thinks very similarly, she doesn't see him as an actor anymore but just a loudmouth a$$hole.

I wouldn't be so quick to insult the guy over that (dunno anything about Paltrow). But, the mind, body, and spirit are all connected. Regardless of what a person chooses to accept or reject in their reality, improving the body does in fact help the mind. Even if you choose to make a part of your reality something that says there is no cure, I think we can all agree on that.
For instance, depending on what you define as a mental illness... something like schizophrenia or Alzheimer's... if it's the latter new research is now referring to that as type 3 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is impossible to improve, but 2 and 3 aren't.
If it's something like a rough childhood or a girl dumping you that you define as mental illness... then I do agree that's not so easy to fix with a vitamin. But, you can improve that too.
Anywho... insinuating Cruise is a predator because he's pro-vitamin is a bit harsh man. Gotta lighten up.
Btw, if you wanted to insult the dude... pick something legit like him going on a rampage on set during the 'rona.

I'll be sure to tell the women suffering from post-partum depression, and committed suicide, they should have just gotten more exercise and taken a few vitamins.
He went WAY beyond what you stated and irresponsibly vilified the entire mental health medical field and flat out lied about medications. THAT is what I find abhorrent.
He's a Scientologist who believes every word they feed him, even when its completely false. Spreading that bullshit is also abhorrent. I'll follow the research before I believe a single word of what he's pushing, because what he pushes gets people killed.

Well, I'll say this... this may be not be safe for work... D=
But, Scientology is a cult. Being open mined I checked out the location in Hollywood for a while. Like most cults, they have a grain of truth to sucker people in but then mixed with hoopla after people are "in" the club so to speak. But, what they base it on, Dianetics, is actually very advanced stuff. It's a shame that doesn't get removed from the cult part of it. Scientology attracts a lot of weak and vulnerable people but the Dianetics part is solid, if you're willing to separate the two.
And I can't believe I'm about to share this online, [redacted, check your email]. So, it's safe to say I have experience in the matter. Not looking for sympathy, but letting you know I'm not a n00b here either. The gist is there is some truth to what Cruise is saying. How he got over his crap was with Dianetics. It worked for him. I mean people are free to call him nuts... that's cool. But, it worked for him and of course he'd want to share that.
Without getting too in the weeds, I guess it's just a different point of view then. I just don't see the reason to hate someone over talking about something that helped them... even if it's a cult and he's nuts. Like we can laugh and call him st00pid, but that's just taking the piss and not real hatred. He's not telling people to go jump off a bridge (I think).
I'll shut up now. I just don't see the need for the hate.

We saw it a month or so ago and I thought it was a Tom Cruise ego trip.

I really enjoyed the movie and Tom's role in it.
Ego trip or not.
When one produces and stars in a movie, it's hard to escape it as some sort of ego trip.

Top Gun Maverick was probably what you saw. (also produced by Tom Cruise).
Yes, Tom was hot stuff in both Top Gun (1986)
(with Kelly McGillis) and Tom Gun Maverick (2022)
Great flicks.
A little over the top at times, but still fun to watch.

Not gonna lie - I really enjoyed Maverick. Way more than I thought I would. Okay, the ending was stupid but it was good fun nonetheless. It was good just to have something none too mentally taxing and Tom Cruise can be relied on to deliver there.

yeah, I was in the middle of reading through the Reacher series. The vitriol spewed by true believers was incredible. Then Amazon released Reacher with Alan Ritchson, and I just can't go back.
As for Dead Reckoning, avoiding spoilers, there were a few times the script poked fun at the MI series and twice they just should have edited a bit more. The widely known motorcycle scene off the mountain goes on and on and on in the movie. The overly long train wreck was the other.
