You haven't quite got the hang of "TotD" yet have you?
It's a daily pun / stupid idea thread which isn't meant to be serious.

Is a broadside what you see when the pirate lass turns around?

A person and I were discussing our jobs. I noted I work both the day shift and evening shift.
"Wow, you work long hours!" they exclaimned.
"No I don't," I qualified.
"But, you just said you work the day shift and the evening shift," they denoted.
I concurred, stating, "That's because I have a 5-speed."

I would have gone with
“No. My hours have 3600 seconds just like everybody’s.”
I'm pretty sure I would not like to live in a world in which I would never be offended.
I am absolutely certain I don't want to live in a world in which you would never be offended.

Was doing some work at home - assembling kit set furniture. History channel in the background and on comes some story about the JFK shooting, or more pointedly about LHO having help. About 45 minutes of the program played out, (and FMD it's it's just one ep. of a whole series!) literal repetition (as well as a myriad alternate ways of saying the same damn thing again) of the smallest items, in that 45 minutes I'd be surprised if there were maybe 2 minutes of actual story.
History Channel: a few good ideas but always taken way too far. Pawn Stars, Kounts Customs (whatever), Alone, that blacksmith show, Oak Island ... mega-yawn ... Even Vikings was stretched too far. (Haven't watch that Knight Templar series yet, looks OK but likely only the first one maybe two series will be good before it too becomes snooze fest material.)
But that LHO series, well it's crapola right out of the box; History Channel have outdone themselves by bringing us a complete utter steaming turd pile in a very first series.
And as dumb coincidence would have it in one break guess what, a trailer for the new Oak Island series - no I won't be watching that either
And finally the construction is complete, the 2nd half of which was carried out in silence [and a much improving mood]. FM!
Signature ready for installation. Please Reboot now.

And who appointed you to be a TV critic?
Watch another channel, get yourself a trunkload of DVDs, direct your own videos and publish them on youtube (or watch cat videos there).

Effective immediately: I hereby appoint Lopatir as official Lounge TV critic. This appointment is fully backed by all of the powers I have been granted as a member of this online community.

I did - didn't you get the memo?

Discovery was good a few years ago, then it went WWII nuts you did have Mythbusters(!) but it went down hill, the same with History. I mean a Custom car show on History, Discovery maybe...

I agree that most series on History channel are boring, with one exception: "Black Sails".
But that just might be because I'm a bit of a pirate from Zeeland, har, har

The feared pirates from Zeeland tried to rob all my money when I was there on vacation. The first time was not so bad, mostly because I was not even in school yet, had no notable amounts of money and was more interested in catching crabs at the beach.

Then I can recommend this beach pavilion: [De Piraat]

Oostkapelle? Could have reached that on foot from Westkapelle, where we used to stay.

Update: not sure if this is a mistranslation by Google, or an accusation!
You stole your bike near the beach.
Lies! All lies! I was nowhere near at the time - whenever that was - and I can have witnesses to prove it!

No, that were the Germans, they always took our bikes (dates back to WWII)
I will see if I can find something on pirates from Zeeland, there have been a few, and don't forget that the Flying Dutchman came from Zeeland too (Terneuzen) !

Some famous privateers from Vlissingen were Nicolas Jarry and Pierre le Turc, more info here (Dutch only)

I would also like to mention that Mark Knopfler made a song about the subject:
Quote: Privateering we will go
Privateering, yo ho ho ho
Privateering we will go
Yo ho ho, yo ho ho

I love the Oak Island show and the Vikings show. I guess I am boring.

The wife and I like the Curse of Oak Island. It hooks you like Farmville or Mafia Wars, you keep watching them find boring things like old pieces of wood, just because every now and again they find something truly interesting, like 1,200 year old lead crosses. And of course we're waiting to see if they find the whole treasure before the seventh guy dies.
As for the oft-repeated variations on the phrase "could it be ...?", we find it amusing. We become Joel, Tom, and Crow watching Mystery Science Theater 3000 and mock the dude. It's a fun hour.
If you think 'goto' is evil, try writing an Assembly program without JMP.
