Which means simple Dutch was somewhat comprehensible to the inhabitants of the east of England when that phrase was coined.

To gullable Americans maybe, but we Europeans see through that

Ah, vertalen! (Had to look it up)
But you have to admit a lot of latin words were absorbed into Dutch in the form I used for 'translate'. No? Or am I just imagining things....

With my mates in Flanders we used to call it 'Nederlish', pretty sure I have mentioned that, but the languages do mix well.

Well for me Flemish is easy to understand, but for "Hollanders" it seems to be incomprehensible.
There are exceptions of course, the Ghent dialect is difficult even for me, I think that dialect was caused by the noose that Charles the Great made them wear

Even the flemish say other flemish accents are incomprehensible.
Generally its an accent quite close to English.
Take genough, the g becomes softer in Flemish than Dutch, and the last g becomes silent in Ost flaams, much like the English enough.

but what would a Dutchman know about alps?
Tallest hill in Holland 322.4 meters (according to wikipedia).
(and probably because many would want to challenge themselves to scary heights that .4m would be worn away by now.)

Is terminal velocity how fast you can run when late for your flight?
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

Ahh --- another chance for me to carry on about linguistic abuse! Aloft at this, at first, but decided it wasn't really funny, but rather was taxiing my patience.

don't worry if you're running late, these days all sizeable airports have travel laters.

I think terminal velocity is the speed you have on your way down when you accidentally step out of a plane in mid-air without a parachute.
I hate it when that happens!

I've been storing all my media backups into free services like Google Photos. I got tired of taking backups offline in External drives, DVDs etc. None of the CD backups I took late in the 1990s are working now May be it's the plastic booklet type CD/DVD archive I used. Almost 90% of the CD-Roms fail to read.
Now I'm just going only with online backups. It's good to see them providing free services.
But how far is this going to go?
All of a sudden, what if Google says "Pay $2000 to continue accessing your files" like a ransom?, and may be precisely after my storage size reaches several dozen TBs.
I wish they are going to be reasonable when, one fine day they start to think of charging for the storage.
Having this in mind, I'm keeping my "media-production" rate very normal. Over all, it should be just less than a TB as of now. I use the services very consciously. Even I feel a lot of guilt if I'm taking photos in Burst mode in camera. lol!

Or they put ads over the images and force you to click them to make them go away, of course using AI to pick an appropriate advert ...

Hand over all your data to me. I promise I will never hold your data ransom. But once I have figured out how to get into your house you might get:
