I think I could eat any ten of those. Does that count?

I blame my instructor in college Technical Writing class. He warned me to never let anyone know what I can do (write well), else I'd never be allowed to design anything. Employers would stick me in a corner and make me write clear, accurate, and understandable tech manuals for the rest of my life. I guess he told too many students the same thing, and here we are today because of it.

In the early days, some 20 years ago, they would connect remotely and help you. Guess too many people abused that. They have some pretty good KB articles, google them.

I don't take much interest in all the "amazing" photographs splattered all over the Internet. However they have become quite ubiquitous. Here is an example of what is possible, these images even fooling historians: The art of fake news: The Indonesian artist fooling the world with his photos - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)[^]
I naively thought that it would be easy to detect these fakes by the use of smart algorithms. This does not appear to be the case partly because image manipulation software has become very sophisticated. The best forensic tools seem to be common sense and scepticism: Spot faked photos using digital forensic techniques | Science | Australian Popular Science[^]
It is true that there have always been fake photos of UFOs, fairies, ghosts and other subjects but in the digital age the numbers have grown enormously.
Do you think it will ever be possible to secure a digital image so that it cannot be manipulated - some kind of blockchain for images?

at least fake videos would be a step up from the current idiots doing videos of fake pictures (along with annoying background music and power point style page flipping / countdown title pages.)
In a similar light was looking at reviews of surge protectors t'other day, for some newer/less common brands there are not many proper technical reviews so I thought look maybe at some of the youtube results... so many youtube "reviews" are barely more then some dull dickhead taking the item out of the wrapping.
The internet is a brilliant idea, letting people use it: not so much.

They already exist apparently (and some people are annoyed about them): Deepfake - Wikipedia[^]
Mind you, if someone made a deepfake of me, I'd be impressed. Might not watch it though...

Like in Rouge One (Star Wars), where the actor from 1977 plays his own role - without aging a bit...

Indeed yes. It will be possible to replace one actor with another in classic movies. Something to think about.

Are you also going to replace the scripts of his movies with decent scripts?

I can remember this app being on the Mac. Everyone who comments on computer history seems to talk about it like it was Excalibur or something, but yet I don't think I can ever remember using it.

I once read a space opera style story where the helmsman of a battleship quoted this before the big battle, well knowing that only two people on the bridge were old enough to have read that book when it was first published.
