My laptop goes to sleep after a short period of inactivity and this is called "energy efficiency" but when I do it, apparently, it is "laziness".

You are a lucky man. My laptop always wake me up if I like to go to sleep

It is thought that our brains do a clean up and defrag when in a sleeping state.
Why can't my computer do the same?! And no, not just a memory dump. However I get the feeling that a bunch of people use this feature as the next day they seem so carefree and forgotten all the woes of the previous day.

At my previous job, if I had nothing to do, and management knew it because I'd put out repeated "I need something to do" emails, I still had to sit in my cubicle warming my chair, looking "active."

Gone are the days when you could just walk around with a clipboard and pen, and everyone would think you're busy.
Nowadays, you need a tablet and a Star Trek uniform.

That's like the day after I was informed about being laid off.
I was playing solitaire when my boss walked in. I asked are you going to let me go? No questions asked.

I am aware, I was just lamenting the fact that I am indeed old enough to have listened to that record (well, my sisters copy).
