How does "lacking direction" part comes into the solution? I thought it was an exclusion/deletion indicator or anagram.
|
|
|
|
|
Lacking direction is often just the removal of a compass point, so you could have something like "Winter lacking direction = winter - W(est) = inter" or "Guard lacking direction = sentry - S(outh) = entry".
Could also be a non-cardinal point like SE (South East), NE (North East) etc. or in some cases the full word (north/south/east/west).

By that logic could it also be
In lacking direction means I, i.e. remove N(orth) from In.
This would make the puzzle: I in basic instincts acts like neanderthals.
Either add I to the synonym of instinct
OR
Neanderthals being extinct; remove I from Basic Instincts itself or a synonym?
I come up with this version simply because the first 'In' seems redundant somehow. Simply Lacking direction would've been good enough to convey the point about compass directions.

Now the solution is in ...
I had thought of CAVEMAN as well, and the best I could come up with was Basic Instinct = CRAVE, Direction = R for right, so Basic Instinct Lacking Direction = (CRAVE - R) = CAVE. But I was stuck on how to get MAN.

Primate? (acts like Neanderthal)
As for the solution, well I can piece most of it together but with multiple avenues.
For examples:
"i" could come from "In" with "n" (north) removed.
"Prim" comes from "Prime" with "e" (east) removed.
"ate" could be the basic instinct or eating, likewise "mate" could also come from the basic instinct of "mating".
Bottom line, I don't know what the exact solution would be, assuming the answer is even correct.
|
|
|
|
|
This is what I was leading to, couldn't come up with how to make Prime or accurately PR.
|
|
|
|
|
So many possibilities...
basic > primary > prime
primal as in primal instincts
Perhaps the answer is even "primals", im sure we will find out soon enough!

In = HOME - lacking direction (east) = HOM
in = IN
basic instincts = ID
acts (becomes - bit superfluous that, could have left out)
like Neanderthal == HOMINID

Ah, I see. Still got to say it's somewhat tenuous. Someone might have got it from "subconscious" or some reference to Freud but "basic instinct?"

Updated Post: Added my email link
My Fellow Computer Scientist:
I need participants for anonymous interviews.
I am performing a study exploring the strategies software developers need to maintain security requirements during agile development processes. I will need to interview 10 participants. Participants must be developers (i.e., software, web, application, full stack, system, etc.) with at least three years of experience and working in any of the agile development processes (i.e., Scrum, Kanban, Crystal, XP, Mixed, Lean, etc.). All participants will remain anonymous, and the interviews will only last 45 to 60 minutes via Skype.
I would appreciate anyone that can participate, or if you can reach out to any friends that may be willing to participate and meet the criteria, send them my way. I want to start interviewing immediately and will schedule interviews around the participant's schedule.
If you can send this out and let everyone know that I am looking for help ASAP, I would appreciate it.

Unfortunately, my university does not allow me to give any incentives for dissertation research.
Does my undying gratitude count?

You want anonymous research but we have to email you? Not going to happen I'm afraid. I have no idea who you are. I have no idea what you are going to do with my email address.

Yes, I am doing an anonymous study, which means your name, location, employment, or any other identifying information will not be included in my dissertation or documentation. You are given an alias such as P1, P2, P3, etc. Anonymity is because the IRB wants us to minimize risks to participants.
My name is John, and I am asking you to email me. I do not want your email address for anything more than contacting you with documentation and scheduling information. I have to contact you to arrange an interview for my study.
I understand your apprehension, but I assure you I am just trying to complete my research so I can get my degree.
I would love for you to participate and would appreciate the help.

No blisters for me, or lightning either. I just need participant help.
I have been going to school for 10 years straight, on top of homeschooling four boys, working fulltime, working part-time, marriage, and other normal life issues. Now I am finally at the end of my goal, and I have a 5 week deadline to get 10 participants. I am having trouble finding them.

If I knew you, maybe - but I don't! And seriously? An hour of developer time on Skype? Do you have any idea how much that is worth to the companies and individuals involved?
Sorry, but I won't be participating today.

As CodeProject developers are hesitant to give their email address maybe you can post it as an article, then they can reply via CodeProject.
