I'm building a box to house my 3D printer, and I wanted a 12V supply to power LEDs and a extractor fan - so I raided the "dead phone" box and grabbed a barrel connector PSU and started looking for a panel mount female 5.5mm OD.
That's when I discovered there are two types: ID or 2.1mm or ID or 2.5mm.
And a little research* gave me the "official test" to find out which is which.
Grab a toothpick, break it in half. Stuff it in the hole in the middle. Turn it upside down. If it falls out, it's 2.5mm, if it doesn't, it's 2.1mm.
Because there is an standard for the thickness of round toothpicks: 2.1 to 2.2mm
And that's what I learned today: someone, somewhere, documented the size of a wooden stick ... and everybody went along with it.
* OK, OK ... a quick Google

I think what it teaches me is that we may need to wait a few more thousand years before we actually reach a standard for power connectors. But that we'll get there in the end, just like toothpicks.
(Imagine the problems people had hundreds of years ago... "Hey, Bathilde, pass me a toothpick..." "Sure, a 2.1mm or a 2.5mm one?" )

I just noticed an advert on the Codeproject ad section on the header. It was for Intel and it made reference to OpenVINO. I don't know, but to me that sounds clearly like a subliminal message (or maybe direct instruction) to open a bottle of wine........
Maybe it is a new naming convention, we will get CrackATinny and ProseGO or even HangoverSSL next
¯_(ツ)_/¯

No, that would be political - and that's not allowed in the Lounge.

I may or may not agree with such a sentiment, but I'd not mention it here.

There's a Linux distro that's literally named Wine
Anyway, some old VB or JavaScript is much more likely to get you on booze than OpenVINO or Wine are

Me: hello, AAA? I'd like roadside assistance please?
AAA: Where did your car break down?
Me: The car's fine, it's me who is having a breakdown. Please come and get me now, thanks.
