It's not a bug, it's a feature!
GOTOs are a bit like wire coat hangers: they tend to breed in the darkness, such that where there once were few, eventually there are many, and the program's architecture collapses beneath them. (Fran Poretto)

A quote within the article: When you have huge amounts of plastic in the environment, that means there is a lot of carbon and there will be evolution to use this as food. Bacteria are there in huge numbers and their evolution is very fast. I wondered if they were going to make this point; it finally appeared near the end of the article.

So the plastic should go into lockdown, and socially distance itself from other plastics.

The was, if memory serves, a story by Larry Niven in which he mentions a bacterium that lives on polyurethane. Eventually, people just had to do without plastic wrappings.

Daniel Pfeffer wrote: The was, if memory serves, a story by Larry Niven in which he mentions a bacterium that lives on polyurethane I don't recall that one, but maybe I'm mentally obfuscating it with the Puppeteers' bacterium, that eats superconductor material (and has Louis Wu performing the stupidest and worst thought-out/written repairs ever in the history of Sci-Fi).Daniel Pfeffer wrote: people just had to do without plastic wrappings No bubble wrap?!?
Thank God mobile phones had been invented, otherwise no-one would have anything to keep them occupied whilst waiting for Louis Wu to repair their alien-tech computers with a bolt of superconductor cloth, a pair of scissors, and a (presumably) slot-head screwdriver.

Currently queuing to enter the supermarket, 35 minutes so far. "1 out, 1 in" system in operation, with priority for NHS workers.
Will get more than I wanted to as I don't want to do this tomorrow...
