The man is 97 years old and still builds cars.
I don't have many famous people I deeply admire, but he is one. He built the set cars for bladerunner and several other movies. That's how you know him.
He said the day he's done learning he'll pull the dirt over him himself. I can so relate to that. He also said loving what you do is the key to life.
I will probably die somewhat younger than he does, on account of my vices, but I will be working until I do. I love what I do.

... sorry CP, but do you really like to let 16,006,341 members in the dark?
Also advertising seems to be down, very bad sign...

That's a total count and not an active count (this is where someone argues with me). As far as adverts being down, I've been saying for years now CP needs some lovin' (this is where someone argues with me). Anyone who knows anything about tech should know they offloaded those ads a while back... which isn't a bad thing as long as its maintained. So to be fair, the blank ad may not be CP directly... but there still needs to be better quality control IMO. You'll have more generic type ads than back in the day, for instance.
Anyway, as usual though people just argued with me with I bring up the truth (that's all CP is these days to me... just disagreements where people don't even read a post when arguing). The fact that people are surprised by anything going on here is what I find amazing quite frankly... talk about refusing to accept the truth. Like nobody's happy here... it's all arguing blah blah blah. But, that's CP... I talked about the decline of Apple a decade ago during its height... more arguments. And I know what I'm talking about here... but I bet I'll get some arguments. And I could even tell you the reasons why the state is what it is with CP... but someone's gonna argue. Life's too short for that, especially when I know that someone has zero experience in the subject matter.
How does that relate? CP has been on the decline for years... save for the AI stuff. Stagnation is decline. Welcome to life. And every so often I'll drop hints, knowing full well what it'll lead to. And, I say this out of love. Love doesn't mean you live in a lie and let stuff die... that's fakeness and weakness masquerading as concern. It means you care enough about something to speak the truth. Clearly CP is my home too, but the fact that any of this comes as a shock to some is what I find amazing. But, that's cool... don't need no truth as long as we can play video games and argue.
And yes I sound jaded, so sorry... it's not you... it's just my association with being here. Because it's times like these I wish tech was way more mature than it is, or perhaps people in general, and I'm just grumpy after decades of arguments (which are usually online).
Anyway, all of this isn't necessarily bad, despite me being grumpy. Decline and rebirth is the natural cycle of life. One of two things is gonna happen, some peeps behind CP swap out and it's replaced with new vigor. Or it just fades away. Just like I'm old and grumpy on these sites after decades of arguing, I'm sure the folks running this show need a change. Can't blame them at all.
Since none of us run CP, here's the best we can do...
1) If you want to help, go answer questions and/or write some articles.
That's it. That's all we have control over.
Also, whatever happens to CP... nobody is letting you down. Life is about change. Accept it. As for me personally, my wish is the folks behind CP have an amazing future ahead of them wherever life takes them. It would be nice if CP kept on going, but IMO it needs a breath of fresh air regardless. Hell even Coke and Pepsi get a facelift every few decades. But, whatever happens don't go trying to guilt peeps if they need to take a different journey at this point in their life.

One proposal in the earlier thread is to have a rota of setters instead of WSO - this begs the question, who is willing to be a setter on a rota basis - I'm in

Yep, count me in.
Set up a new User Group for setters - they ask to join you and get accepted.
That gives you both a forum to formalize the rota, and a pool of users to call on.

I must have missed something here. I know that Chris and Matt have left, but I don't think the hamsters have been left completely unattended. What do you know here that I don't?

I don’t have any inside information, but I just notice that there has been not even an official peep about all these changes. Past (sad) experiences make me think of some corporate overlords who don’t know what to do with a newly acquired property. We’ll see…
BTW I think it’s safe to add Kent to the MIA gang.

Winner Stays On; the arcane tradition, often seen in pool halls, where the winner stays on the table. By on, we don't actually mean that they have to climb on the table. That tends to be frowned upon.
Dalek Dave. A Dr Who fanatic who wanted to stand for election in UK local elections. He was an accountant and CCC fan, who stumbled into CP one day and decided it was much more interesting than working for a living, so he squatted in the lounge.
