Why not directly POO (Point of Ordering)?

I thunk you're right, and it's a problem I'm trying to solve, as well. Not easy, as most sales and management software packages aren't designed for user extension.

Quote: If OP is talking about getting data from hand held card swipe machines First off, OP did not give enough information for anyone to help with anything.

You don't give enough information about the billing machine.
How would anyone know what the capabilities of the machine are.

I know I have ranted on this before, but I'm having another rant, as this time they have wasted even more time.
I am sure the previous rant was along the lines of website advertising on their websites as 'In Stock', only to then receive an email after placing an order to be told out of stock.
Now, fair enough some stock system my not manage large order processing, shopping basket allocation etc. and an email shortly after is an inconvenience but no great shakes.
I received an email today, notifying me that an order placed last week is out of stock and wont be back in stock to next week (maybe). Now it wasn't just one item, but a bunch of things......... The have put the order on HOLD pending my instruction (although the have taken my money of the CC)
Now, found another supplier that I have used before showing everything I want as in stock, so placed an order with them and wait to see if get an order despatch before cancelling the other one.
Oh the joys.

They're not supposed to do that. They can pre-authorize the payment, but they're not supposed to actually take the money until the order has been shipped.

Something similar happened to me with the result of me now owning two bass guitars instead of one

A few years back I went through a half dozen or so rounds of:
1) It's in stock
2) Order placed, CC charged
3) A few days to a week later, out of stock order cancelled
courtesy of sunshines running sites apparently based around drop-shipping products direct from the manufacturer instead of holding any inventory who hadn't bothered to update their elephanting site when the item was discontinued. Eventually I did find a vendor who actually had one in stock.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

I am creating an online shopping cart but ... well inventory is a tricky subject.
1) I have to account for manufacturing loss, it could have been in stock when you ordered
2) I don't want my inventory stored online so it is a temp DB that is updated routinely
3) A lot of pre-fab carts don't truly support real inventory but a mock inventory with quantity (one of the reasons I dumped Shopify) so it can really take a programmer to implement.
Bottom-line, who knew that doing it right was actually a challenge? From the other side, I wish the tools available worked better, you either go with a full solution that is so bloated it accounts for everything and requires a hex-core Pentium extreme future edition to run or you go hosted which is the "vendors" way or you have to write it yourself. And I thought online commerce was a solved market too!

THAT'S interesting.
Wiring a front end website to inventory management system can only be as good as the inventory management system, to be sure.

The bubble burst on my optimism back when I was fiending for the new version of Delphi (in the early 2000s.) I knew it hadn't been released, but someone said they had it in stock.
Aghast, I called them up just to play dumb and harass them. I spent 10 minutes "expressing my concerns that it would be shipped on time" before telling the salesderp that I knew it wasn't out for 2 weeks yet and Whither Yon Pachyderm did they think they were doing.
Now I only deal with a couple vendors for stuff technology. Tiger/Newegg/Amazon. Anyone else can go hang.
