After reaching 200 consecutive games without a loss in hard mode in Ravi's knock-off, it's lost most of its charm. I think the fact that there's only one play per day is what's keeping so many people captivated.

Did you play at night ? The empty squares are black

Sure enough, the squares are black if you play in dark mode, and white otherwise.

I was joking, but thanks, this led me to discover both the dark mode, and the hard mode in the settings.

Marathon? I do not know the solution though as I can't figure how "Mar" comes from.
"It is easy to decipher extraterrestrial signals after deciphering Javascript and VB6 themselves.", ISanti[ ^]

Spoil = Mar
New hat on means an anagram of hat on
which gives you marathon

Thanks! I was wondering what does "new" have to do with Mar. I was looking at spoil as anagram indicator.

Eddy talked about DOS in the thread below, so let me throw some obligatory nostalgia at you.
And for youngsters, you'll never know that satisfaction feeling of successfully extending RAM usage for Doom to play (by modifying autoexec.bat) or resolve that IRQ confilct while tuning your brand new Soundblaster 16
And for increasing file handles for Foxpro and Clipper programmes
In Config.sys or latterly Config.nt
FILES=100

EMM386 or HIMEM? Which Mouse.com do I use?
If I load the mouse first, then the soundblaster, I can save 512 bytes ...
It took longer to get some games running with mouse and sound than the game took to play!

My first LAN party : 4h30 to see the seven of us on the network, then 30 min play before having to go back home
And you could brick your computer by a single mistake in autoexec.bat.
And learned a hard lessons with delete t*.jpg /s -y mistyped as delete *.jpg /s -y Who needs pictures anyway ?

And "general failure reading drive A:" thrown in for good measure.
But when they were all working, LAN Doom was FUN!

Yes, actually we had later even more fun in capture the flag in Quake, because of the team vs. team. Or maybe was it an extension of Quake 2 ?
My computer was too slow, could not afford better back then, so I always was the flag guardian camping near it with a big machine gun.

Doom and Quake did get expensive - Herself insisted on identical computers so I didn't have an advantage over her. So every upgrade cost me double ...
