I remember years ago someone made the calculation and posted that if ink (the ink-jet cartridge type) sold at linear prices, it would come down to something stupid like $9000 a gallon.

I have a similar story -- many moons ago I was brought in as a developer on a 50 developer project. Except the customer didn't have a PC for me yet -- they had exceeded the budget for hardware for that month, so I had to wait.
Each day I was assigned to the PC of a person who was out that day. I had to install the S/W I needed to work in the morning, and before I left, I restored the PC to its original state. We tracked hours by task, so I knew at the end of the month that I spent half of my time setting up and restoring PCs.
At that time a dev PC was $2,000 USD ... my monthly bill rate was $8,000. Double the cost of a PC was spent on setup and restoration.
Yeah, I understand about budgets all too well; it still feels like a foolish way to waste money.

I'm reminded of a (true) story from 20+ years ago. A recently-divorced co-worker of mine was complaining that since he was again a bachelor, he let a big pile of clothes accumulate on his bedroom floor starting in the previous Winter. After a year of the pile getting bigger (with his Summer clothes on top of it), he was complaining he now had to dig deeper into it to find his Winter clothes he wore the previous year.
I suggested he just take the entire pile and flip it upside-down.

I considered mentioning Reacher, but most of us didn't get quite as bloody on a normal day.
As an aside, I spent a good part of the past year reading all the Jack Reacher books I could get. As of this past weekend, I'm caught up.

Is the latest one better than the previous, "No Plan B"? I thought that was the weakest Reacher Novel. I have it in hardback but has to resort to audiobook to get through it.

I read them so quickly (generally one day each) that I barely remember anything about them.
I do recall "The Secret" having a decent premise, but I don't recall the premise of "No Plan B". I consider them all about the same as far as quality goes. The ones with sex scenes are better of course.
I am astounded that the author has come up with so many interesting premises and followed them through. But I also get sidetracked by the clumsiness some of the details. And I don't like that Jack doesn't stick around to clean up the mess.
