Thank you Paul, I'll take a look at it!

I finally gave up on free and purchased Cyberlink Power Director. It was about $70, but does everything I need and has decent tutorials. The free ones always seemed short on a few features that I wanted.

I prefer going the free way, but thank you for the suggestion, I'll take a look at it if they have a demo version that can be tried...

I'm running it on windows 10. Not sure how I got it but. . .can't remember. ..but I use it somewhat regularly on windows 10 with no probs.

OK, second one to say the same, I'll search for a download link and see if I can get it working... anyway it will not be my first choice as it is clear that is being left aside by Microsoft.
Thank you very much for your suggestion!

I actually asked this same question on Spiceworks and found an archived download of MovieMaker from archive.org. VideoPad from NCH is very similar to MovieMaker and really inexpensive. Adobe Premiere Elements is a great low-price paid solution.

I'll check videopad, thank you!

I'm on Win7 still which also does not have Movie Maker, but a colleague pointed me to http://www.windows-movie-maker.org/[^]
I downloaded from there and and it works fine. Maybe it will install on W10 too.

Fourth one to suggest movie maker... I'll try to find it and see... thank you!

While still having reservations, I will give MS some credit...
I reported a suspicious/misleading package "Newtonsoft.json.dll" as opposed to "Newtonsoft.json", and it was gone in a few hours. Obviously, having realised it was not the real thing I never downloaded it to check, but hat's off to MS for the quick response.
(It had already had a few thousand downloads by then - hopefully not too damaging)

I noticed your rant about NuGet yesterday. I use NuGet frequently, but only to install some packages from its command line. It always worked 100% for me. Maybe I was just lucky?
Get me coffee and no one gets hurt!

I have never had any issues with Nuget in regards to security, etc.
We use NuGet for all of our assemblies and we have an in-house NuGet server for our own assemblies. When used properly, NuGet is quite awesome and useful.
If you have reservations about NuGet, then that is your problem, and your problem alone, because our software shop and thousands of other shops do not suffer from that ailment.
