You're preaching to the choir.
I still buy CDs, to people's surprise, and I'm currently in the process of (re-)digitalizing them all to high quality.
Unfortunately, I found some CDs that didn't work anymore, either because of some weird fungus or scratches (and I'm very careful with my CDs)
That said, there's no way I'm going to get any physical Sadistik Mika Band album anytime soon and Spotify is the first place I look.
Also, I can't buy everything I listen to as I'd be out of money (and space) very soon, so Spotify is a very welcome addition, and I admit, mostly replacement, of my physical collection.
Don't get me started on movies though.
At least Spotify has all the music (well, almost).
For Disney or Marvel I'll need Disney+, for GoT or the upcoming LOTR series I need Amazon Prime, for other stuff I need Netflix, older movies often aren't on any streaming services...
And just when you want to watch part two of whatever they pulled it from their service.
It's absolutely horrible
Needless to say, my movie physical movie collection is pretty big as well.
My latest additions (got them in the mail today) are Contact, Gattaca and The Moonrise Kingdom

I am pretty sure OG would have figured this in minutes. It was just that when did he saw this.
I will be away from internet on Monday probably - will be getting a new connection that day, hence refrained from answering. My next comment though would had about the retro/grade game

I looked for an anagram, couldn't see one and then it was obvious!

Or is that spiders... yeah that's it... spiders are never more than 3 feet away from an internet.

The world witnessed the Challenger Disaster (28 Jan 1986)[^]. I got to know about it on the next day, from my newspaper in India. Sad day indeed.
This was the first space disaster which I got to know after I became mature enough to understand the world outside, and it revealed the perils of space flight.

I watched it on TV and the disaster was certainly not expected. That was a very sad day.

I remember seeing it on the evening news in Israel.
It was the first item - ahead of the theme that usually started the program - and they showed the last few seconds of the launch. The picture of the explosion was left on the screen for just long enough for it to sink in, and then they segued to the program theme.

In a whole other lifetime, I was an engineering student and one of my instructors had previously worked for an airplane manufacturer. He was one of the engineers and they had a policy that the engineer had to go on the first test flight with the crew.
Makes you double triple quadruple check the math.
I was in an engineering lab alone when it happened. I turned on the TV in the room and watched it for hours it seems. They just kept replaying the same footage. One of the 'Where were you' questions, I'll always recall.

I have programmed machines for aerospace, automotive, pharma and other branches...
In almost every project I worked, there was a "downgrade" request at some point in the project, when they realize that the required specifications are not realistic and an obstacle for the serie production. Many of them I had no seconds thoughts about it and did the changes, but I had to face some situations where I denied / rejected to do some modifications. One thing is "quality" of the product, another is security.
I even had a customer low-manager that wanted some changes without a written change request. When I blocked and told "no way" he started threatening me to include me in a black list. I told him to go and himself, closed my laptop, put everything back in my bag and left the factory.
I was called before reaching the car to please come back and finish the project.

Yes he actually threatened to remove his name from the final report unless they left some of the more scathing comments in it - good man was Richard

On a more pleasant note, in 1988 Tetris showed up on this side of the pond.
On a happier note, yesterday was our 60th anniversary. I ate too much and fell asleep.
