"We don't have time for long-term effects".
The Canadian government threw money at anybody that used the words "working on a vaccine"; including the Chinese.
We even have "firm" orders for millions of doses of vaccine from these outfits ... once they discover it.

With my level of luck, I'd be in those 10% for whom it is not gonna work.
On a side note, 90% is fore sure better than nothing, but still a terrible result...

Given the short development timeframe, 90% is pretty amazing, and could be enough to stop global lockdowns. If the R number dropped to even close to 0.1 due to the majority of people being vaccinated it'd start to die.
And hopefully, take the anti-vax idiots with it ...

Agreed, taking the anti-vax idiots out of the equation would be a bonus. Poetic justice and a very normal process of natural selection. Survival of the fittest and/or the most savvy is just the natural way of things.

Not to turn this into a political discussion, but I did tell some people I was fully expecting a pharmaceutical company to announce significant progress shortly after you-know-who got booted out of office.
I just didn't expect one such qualifying announcement to be made less than a week after the US elections.

I'd say it's probably just coincidence - they are all working flat out to be the first to release, as that's where the big money is to start with. The really big money is in the long term maintenance doses of course, but the "market leader" will get a big share of that!

After months and month, it's just a coincidence? That's what they want you to believe.
And let me correct myself: It's not a mere "few days after the election", it's the very first business day after the results have been confirmed. Watch the double-whammy rally on the stock market.
Of course I'm only semi-serious. All I can do is stand back and laugh at the whole situation.

Yes, but today is Monday, and they probably can't easily release over a weekend.
It's like your boss working out that 40% of the office sick days are Monday and Friday, and assuming that you are all padding it for long weekends!

So...you're not disagreeing that they had been sitting on the announcement since the results of the elections were made official on Saturday?

90%. Is that 9 out 10? 90 out of 100?
90% is about the same as the "non-fatality" rate.
Yawn.

Ummm...those are all the same...?
A vaccine that's 90% effective is a lot better than some vaccines that are in use today. I believe the influenza vaccine that's offered every year is typically rated at something around 40% effective. And yet they insist everybody gets it.

If not a coincidence, don't you think it's the other way around.
That they might wait a few days extra to not affect the election?

So you're confirming my thoughts: Any way you look at it, it's impossible to separate the pandemic from politics.

The US President had been saying "We are days away from a vaccine." for months.
I’ve given up trying to be calm. However, I am open to feeling slightly less agitated.

Of course that's what he's been saying. And everybody's waited for him to be confirmed to be out to bring any sort of positive news. That's the conspiracy. :-/ Make of it what you will.

I am not sure if this information is true or not (many people in poser lie all the time). However, I have met another information — several guys, who were vaccinated, got COVID-19 through it, and 1 guy even passed away. I do not trust this vaccine.

You seem to know a lot about this! Would you be so kind as to provide me with links to published, peer-reviewed scientific articles to support that complete and utter b*llsh*t?

Please don't spread stuff like this. Links to peer reviewed papers are fine. Links to repeatable outlets that show the chain of information on a report such as this is great. But "I heard someone say" is not just a waste of space, it's fundamentally dangerous at this time.
People are dying. Follow the facts, whichever they may lead you, but not the stories of those who want their 15 mins of fame.
