More subtle is rm -rf .*
This achieves the same thing as rm -rf / but to the unwary looks like its only going to remove the hidden files and directories in the currrent directory.

That reminds me of the biggest c**k-up that I ever made on a server.
I had always used HPUX where a command like "cp SomeExecutable /bin" would copy SomeExecutable to the /bin directory.
I then tried this on an AIX box only to find that the good people at IBM are somewhat more literal than those at Hewlett Packard. Why is there noting in /bin? Because /bin is now some executable file, of course! The damned thing had done exactly what I told it to do.
Such is UNIX - with great power comes a great ability to destroy.

Yes, I knew about it.
I bought one (Christmas present to myself from my wife).
Why - consistency across devices (desktop, laptop, xbox, phone).
And from my Halo playing days, talking to Cortana is more fun. Who the h31l is this Alexa chick? Never heard of her or seen her in a video game.

I'm still not seeing the point of Google Home or Amazon Alexa. All the ads and use examples seem so contrived.
A good speaker system to stream music... fine.
A voice activated personal assistant to buy my wife flowers when I screw up... meh!

I totally agree and I own a Google Home which was gifted to me last Christmas.
The main thing I use it for is streaming music. And, of course, unless you are part of a paid service that isn't even very good.
Google brow beats you continually to "join Youtube Red" for $9.99 a month. Way too expensive.
I use free Pandora to listen to music via Google Home but even with that Ms. Google drives me utterly crazy at times trying to route me to Youtube Red.
If I don't say things exactly right then she says, "You need a Youtube Red subscription to do that"
I've found that, like any other animal, we think we program AI but really it programs us. 
EDIT
I do like the ability to set "hands free" timers too. Ours is in kitchen and you can easily say, "Hey Google, set a timer for 13 minutes". Quite helpful if you cook.

- Cortana experience may vary by device.
And the last thing I want is some device in my house that's constantly listening to everything I say. It's bad enough that the cats report everything to their home planet.

PS - this is not just me being afraid of "big brother." Samsung was recently fined several million dollars because they were recording conversations heard by their TVs and retaining the recordings. I do not consider Amazon, Google, or Microsoft to be any more "benevolent" than Samsung.
