"Along with the FileIO functionality there is the TextFieldParser. This is an RFC compliant CSV parser that can also handle fixed-width files."
I've been programming for nearly 40 years, and I cannot remember I time that I have ever encountered a fixed-width file.
A more pressing question is what will be the default syntax highlighting color for these objects/methods?

There are some type of credit card feeds that are fixed width.

I had to develop a web portal for a car distribution company that uses fixed-width files for two-way communication with their AS/400 system.

Do they call them "fixed" width because they chop the lines off at the carriage return?

You never read or wrote data from/to magnetic tapes? Fixed width records (very handy for COBOL) in fixed size blocks.

Last April, Microsoft open sourced the original File Manager that shipped with Windows 3.0, allowing users to make changes and if they want, compile it for use on Windows 10. Now, the firm is making it easier to run the legacy app, as it's offering the Windows 3.0 File Manager through the Microsoft Store as a UWP app. Because... Because... Nope, can't think of why.

On the minus side: 8:3 file names.
On the plus side: No effluent interface.

OK, I'm sold. I'd rather suffer the file names than the effluent interface. It'll become the only UWP app on my machines (discounting the ones I can't uninstall).
Although where they get off labelling a win 3 app as UWP, I don't know.

Best known for its use in Go and Swift, C# proposal #1398 seeks to add defer statements. If you are not familiar with the concept, it can be summarized as a finally block appearing at the beginning of some code instead of the end. I could leave this feature for later

Just because they implement a new feature doesn't mean you have to use it. I wish they'd quit putzing around with the language and make Visual Studio more reliable. Furthermore, Visual Studio could really use a freshening up of its icons..
|
|
|
|
|
static void Main() {
Console.WriteLine("Hello");
defer {
Console.WriteLine("Foo");
}
defer {
Console.WriteLine("Bar");
}
defer {
Console.WriteLine("Baz");
}
Console.WriteLine("World");
}
Gives:
Hello
World
Baz
Bar
Foo
(Obviously)
I can only say:
Wow! Just wow!
No, hang on, I meant:
Why!? Just why!?

Isn't it remarkable that the benefits of not using fb are clearly observed, defined, and expressed, but the only benefit given for using it is:
The authors wrote in their conclusions: Our results leave little doubt that Facebook produces large benefits for its users. A majority of people in our sample value four weeks of access at $100 or more, and these valuations could imply annual consumer surplus gains in the hundreds of billions of dollars in the US alone. The 60 minutes our participants spend on Facebook each day is itself suggestive of the substantial value it provides. So, if I've got this right, the only benefit of using fb is an imaginary amount of money, which, if you live in a world of unicorns and flying pigs, you can pretend pretend is real money, and further imagine what effect it would have on the world if it were real money, not imaginary money in a world that doesn't exist.
Which essentially proves that, to use fb, you have to be out of your bleeding mind.
Case closed. Next!
