Kent Sharkey wrote: People just want stuff for free I guess. Well there are some cases where it is a bit ridiculous - for example, you have to pay for your internet service, pay for Netflix, then pay Microsoft just to watch it on your Xbox. I don't think they're offering anything in that chain that costs them money, but they still charge you for it.

How does a game box deliver "thousands of dollars of value?" As in, how does a game deliver anything that has value beyond its entertainment? We seem to have a very screwed up definition of "value" nowadays.

Well:
- It's a paperweight. Those are ... five bucks?
- It plays music. That's got to be worth... $10?
- It shows the television schedule! That saves you from buying TV Guide. There's another $5.
- Games. Of course none actually come with it. Hmmm. Let me think on this more.
That's just the first $20. I'm sure there's at least $1980 I'm missing...

I'd like to change my personal VPS to Maria. Although I'm not sure how possible that is right now since I'm using cPanel which supports MySQL.

I would think that with all the current ... feelings ... towards Oracle and MySQL, that cpanel (or rather the various hosting companies) might start moving towards Maria (or Postgres).

A long time ago, when some cavemen invented archiculture, someone made the exact same argument.
Technology doesn't make us less human, it changes the definition of being human.

On the contrary, I think we've ceased to be human ever since that fire got invented

You definitely want to be the legendary caveman-genius who figured out how to make fire.
The one who invented milking cows on the other hand will always be thought of as a bit of a weirdo...

With the stock market constantly rising and falling, it's hard to predict what kind of luck you'll have when you retire and how much you should be saving so you don't run out of money. One financial expert, however, has found the magic retirement savings rates for most people. Which is about how much longer I'll have to work before retirement

Seems like a lot of extra work to end up with coffee flavored alcohol without the caffeine. I can add alcohol to my coffee right now and get the best of both worlds.

Yeah, that part is definitely missing, but it's just a start. Hopefully they'll figure out how to keep the caffeine in there.
Now you have me thinking about an Irish coffee. I think it's time somewhere...

You can only produce secure web applications by taking security into account, from the start. This requires thinking of the potential ways someone could attack your site as you create each page, form, and action. It also requires understanding the most common types of security problems and how to address them. Respect yourself, protect yourself
