Google is considering giving more prominent search rankings to websites that use encryption, in a move that could compel sites across the web to begin locking down the information sent to and from their servers, according to The Wall Street Journal. Like that stuff matters any more

Since Facebook's Carlos Bueno wrote the canonical article about the full stack, there has been no shortage of posts trying to define it. For a time, Facebook allegedly only hired "full-stack developers." Jack of all trades, master of (hopefully) some
And here I thought it would be impossible for me to ever post something from the PuffHo (granted, it's a reprint)

I enjoy working with stacked developers; but there are just too few of them.
You'll never get very far if all you do is follow instructions.

You repeat yourself.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Yeah, I think they need to update "Don't do evil" with your version. Or something about assimilation.

Windows Phone developers can now install the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile operating system on their personal devices. The company announced today that Windows Phone 8.1 is available through the Windows Phone Preview program, so devs can get a head start on building apps for the new update, which will be rolling out to consumers later this year. Only phone. Installs Windows Phone Developer Preview. (insanity wolf)
It finished a few minutes ago.

It'll be all right. Mine's been running it most of the day with no issues yet.

Microsoft launched the Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview earlier today but that's not the only thing the company is doing to help app developers get up to speed on their latest mobile OS. Microsoft has also released a reference app designed to help developers make software that can properly use the new Cortana voice command digital assistant. Cortana: write my code for today

Microsoft TechNet blog makes clear that Windows 8.1 will not be patched; users must get Windows 8.1 Update if they want security patches. That was fast: and people complained about XP

But it is continuing to push Windows Phone 8.1?

Their marketing of this update has been completely flawed.
It has a stupid name: Windows 8.1 Update 1.
It is actually a really minor update, the only change I've noticed is the ability to pin Metro Apps to the task bar, and some icons for mouse interaction in Metro Mode.
It should have just been a KBxxxx (Mouse Enhancements) update, like any other.

Must have been one hell of a mouse update at 800MB+

And proper context menus for the start screen.

Actually it's called "Windows 8.1 Update," which is arguably more stupid. A lot of recent MS products have been using Update n (e.g., Visual Studio), so in fact if they'd called it Update 1 it would have made more sense.
