GitLab provides a self-hosted open-source collaboration platform intended for software developers. Simply speaking, GitLab is a GitHub that you can install on your own server for free to have full control over your code. Of course, you'd really rather use Workspaces

What if you could “file a bug on the internet” in a public space where developers, users and browser vendors could be made aware of compatibility issues? A one-stop shop for complaining about browsers

I predict this soon will be overwhelmed with "it doesn't work" sort of "bugs" and other such spam.

Work on Swift—Apple's surprise new programming language unveiled at WWDC—started development four years ago in conjunction with efforts to keep Objective C relevant. Swift now aims to quickly replace Objective C for modern Cocoa development on iOS and OS X. "If you love something, set it free"

Wow, finally something interesting to say about Apple for a change! Apparently at Apple’s recent WWDC event they announced a “competitor” to DirectX called “Metal” … as in coding DIRECT to the METAL… get it "The fact that 3D works at all in modern games is probably largely attributable to a small handful of geniuses with sufficient IQ to create tools that have made it accessible to everybody else… with tremendous effort."

The article is very good. Unfortunately, he gets confused towards the end and starts comparing it to CUDA.

Looks like a dead project; I checked the site and the latest version was over 3 years ago! So nothing happening there I don't think.

The UK government believes hackers who cause "catastrophic" damage should be imprisoned for life, Queen Elizabeth II said in a speech today, in which she proposed a crime bill that would update the 1990 Computer Misuse Act. "Off with their heads!"

Would someone please explain to them what a hacker is?
You'll never get very far if all you do is follow instructions.

The Queen is apolitical which means she has to rely on other people to be right wing, reactionary and xenophobic on her behalf.
(Also - "life" in certain parts of her realm is pretty darned short)

Marking the one year anniversary of the NSA leaks saga, Microsoft today called for broad change in how the United States Government and its intelligence agencies operate, and what they collect. Making too much work for them?

Recently, Oracle submitted the new Universal Permissive License (UPL) for approval to the Open Source Initiative (OSI), claiming the UPL filled the need for a permissive, MIT-style open-source license with explicit patent grants...At a high level, the UPL copyright and patent licenses are overly broad. They extend to current and future versions of both the UPL-licensed code as well as any software or hardware identified in a file included with the UPL-licensed code.

As Apple (AAPL) rolled out a bevy of cool new features for iOS this week, the pundits were sure of one thing: A whole bunch of apps were about to be “killed.” This is a brilliant analysis - or not

I am siding with the "not" on this one.
there are so many apps that duplicate or give a different twist on existing features for iOS already. I am working on a different twist of the timer app and was amazed to find the number of different apps that are out there for timers.
