If you really want to speed up things, throw away the developments of the last 2 decades. Write the pages in simple HTML without those tons of css and javascript, animated images, flash, and all that crap. That would reduce the load time effectively to the ping time.

Robert "Uncle Bob" Martin is one of the 17 software development visionaries who met at The Lodge at Snowbird ski resort in Utah in February 2001 to discuss the various lightweight development methods of the time. The result of that meeting would become known as the Agile Manifesto. Which means it's about time for the next Silver Bullet, isn't it?

In a frank Reddit AMA, Microsoft's founder reveals he may not be the supervillain that open source advocates have made him out to be. "If something is expensive to develop, and somebody's not going to get paid, it won't get developed."

I mean, why not. He has earned $80bn+ and I think, now is the right time for him to say, we should adapt to the need of going open source.

This has been proven time and again by :
1. wikipedia: free online encyclopedia which beat all other encyclopedias
2. OpenOffice / LibreOffice
3. Linux of all sorts.
What?

raddevus wrote: Linux of all sorts Much of the "free" development of Linux is funded by corporations, including RedHat and Google. Oh, and now Microsoft, too.
Yeah, that's what I thought. It takes money to make free stuff.

Good points. You are probably right.
The wikipedia thing is very interesting history though.
They honestly destroyed Brittanica and Microsoft Encarta with that free stuff.
Also, I thought the misinformation part was gone now.
If it's on the Internet, it's true, right?
Because if it's on the Internet then enough people _think_ it's true and that makes it true, right?

Microsoft owes its position thanks to piracy. AFAIK, the average pirate does not pay for his/her product.
Fifteen years ago most consumer PC's were running an illegal version of Windows, as well as some companies; that is what got them their market-share in the first place, and that is why one "free" OS won from another "free" OS.
..and no, I'm not going into the quote; any regular school that teaches something like trade or economics can explain why it is wrong.
