JPMorgan Chase on Thursday unveiled a prototype for a digital coin system using blockchain, a first among major banks as disruption accelerates change in financial services. Is the trend officially over when the banks get involved?
|
|
|
|
|
It's not a "proper" one; it's exclusively for use by the bank to transfer money hither and yon, and with no anonymity (banks aren't allowed to make anonymous transfers).
Given that, I really can't see the point of it. They can transfer funds electronically, already, so using a blockchain only adds another layer to existing operations.
So it's either a typical Great New Idea that only makes things harder, or they've worked out how to use it to fiddle international taxes.

Microsoft has published a new preview release of Windows 10, build 18836, to participants of the "Skip Ahead" group. But it's not quite the preview that they were expecting to get. "In the year 2525, if man is still alive"

AI is getting better and better at writing convincing material, and that's leading its creators to wonder whether they should release the technology in the first place. Hopefully it didn't write this story

So only read news from sources that are completely trustworthy and unbiased, like... Um...
OK, so don't read news at all; just make up your own.
Have you heard that the meeting between a certain person who lives in a certain-coloured house and Fatty Kim III was disrupted by a flock of pelicans going through their mating rituals?

I really hope that part of the statement is referring to the pelicans.

Good news in a way - all we need now is an AI that can write excruciating puns and every "journalist" who ever "worked" on The Sun will be entirely obsolete.

I was a little worried you were planning on putting me out of business there (until the end of the sentence). Getting rid of the Sun "journalists" is OK though.

The most impressive magic trick AI‘s learned in the modern era is the one where it conjures people out of thin air. And there’s no better machine learning-powered wizardry than Nvidia's. I'm sure no one will come up with bad uses for this technology

I noted a marked bias against people of non-European ancestry in the "photos" offered. They have offended the Ghods of PC.
The Ghods of PC demand in turn that the site be shut down, its owners declared anathema, and the electrons used to display the site scattered to the four winds of the Earth!

Now seriously, are they trying to hide something, e.g. that their A.I. is not as good at rendering Asians or Africans as it is at rendering Europeans?

Amazon.com Inc said Thursday it will not move forward with plans to build a headquarters in New York after rising opposition from local politicians. People who read this news item, also read these others

The whole HQ2 location contest was faked to extract billions of dollars from taxpayers. They already knew where they would be before they started, near two homes owned by Jeff Bezos. A bunch of employees from Seattle contacted real estate agents prior to the announcement of the location choice. This leads to the conclusion that a large portion of the 'new jobs' would actually go to transplants from Seattle, not existing New Yorkers.

It was a personal promotional stunt that failed, because Bezos was expecting (nay, demanding) to be idolised for it, and maturely decided to take his toys home when he wasn't.
