Did they donate to the wrong charity? I have been boycotting Mozilla since they fired Brendan Eich.

Speedgate is based on data from hundreds of existing sports. "Shall we play a game?"
Golly.
That would have taken someone, oooh, whole minutes to work out, using a crayon and a sheet of toilet paper.
What bunch of kids has never devised their own variant games of this type?
And what normal, boring, non-cloud-based, non alexa-compatible, and non-AI software couldn't have done the same?
All these AI "specialists" are managing to do is "create" input-process-output programs, which, well, AIn't in any way special.

Normally I would try to come up with some sort of sarcastic remark but the author beat me to it, except I don't think they were being sarcastic.

Surely this misses the point that successful sports are constantly evolving. There's a cycle that starts with a few people larking around in the park, moves through an initial formalisation phase and then a long (potentially infinite) phase of rule tweaking as new spoiling or unbalancing tactics are developed by players.
This only seems to address the "lark in the park" stage which doesn't exactly showcase any adaptive artificial "thought" process.

Python has attracted two million new developers over the past year. NO ONE would expect that!

Nah. I ain't going all through that.

Stats abuse warning: Maybe I skimmed too fast, but I am struggling to find the statement which asserts that all these Python developers are making a living with Python?
Python has its uses, but I will make a BAD anology such as:
Yeah, I am sure millions of people use Windows Movie Maker (iMovie on mac?) to make youtube videos. But I assume at some point, those making daily videos with the production to sustain a living switch up to different production pipelines.
A better analogy:
Billions of people use a frying pan once a week. They cook, but not necessarily professional (making a living) cooks.

I agree. I think you've explained it exactly as it really is.
These magazines, etc, create self-fulfilling prophecies.

I'm reminded of a relative who worked at a well known second tier company. Some smartypants insisted that they write some network software using the latest greatest fad. In meetings, that exactly what the developers were doing. Back in their offices, they were actually using C++ and raw sockets.
"What does this Python script do?"
"It calls this C++ DLL."
Yup.
What does this .Net Core code do?
pInvokes this C++ DLL.

It pains me to quote this, but I'm willing to put my personal distaste aside in order to get you banned in the EU: Quote: So this is how liberty dies...with thunderous applause.

This is absolutely about liberty; it opens the door to similar abuses as the DCMA in the US, which has had a chilling impact on free speech.
Someone who says "You are not allowed to copy my work" is not denying your right to freedom of speech.
He is denying that you have a right to steal his work.
Don't believe all the propaganda spewed out by google, and the like.
Taking someone's work without permission and making money out of it is theft.

First, there is a long tradition and law that allows for fair use. If, for example, you are doing a movie review, you will have to use material which is copyrighted or trademarked, if it's nothing more than the title of the work. The law does make exceptions for this, but other provisions have a similar problem as the DCMA in the US.
"Fair use" does not mean "copy loads of stuff from other people, and add no content of your own".
Something only falls under fair use if you use it to emphasise, or as an integral part of, your own original content.
Without your own original content, it is not fair use; it is theft.
Google, and the others who steal material, add nothing.
They just make money out of it.
Like I said: don't fall for the "freedom of speech" bullsh1t that they're using to try to continue to steal money from content creators.

It's because they based their efforts on the wrong movies, and used the wrong cameras.

In a study of healthy volunteers, researchers found that our brains may solidify the memories of new skills we just practiced a few seconds earlier by taking a short rest. The results highlight the critically important role rest may play in learning. Who knew, "sleep on it" was actually good advice?
I thought someone just thought it up for no reason...
