WordPress users with the Advanced Custom Fields plugin on their website should upgrade after the discovery of a vulnerability in the code that could open up sites and their visitors to cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks. XSS marks the spot

One of the longest running schisms in programming is that of static vs dynamic typing. I've heard a million arguments from both sides throughout my entire career, but seen very few of them ever convinced anyone of anything. Ruby with explicit, static typing would be like a salad with a scoop of ice cream.

I've been bit by runtime bugs relating to dynamic typing too many times over the years. I'll stick with static typing, thank you. Even though it means I have to explicitly convert between types I find static typing far better matches my mindset.

I believe the argument is that everyone is realizing that dynamic typing sucks, which is why TypeScript is so popular and why "new" languages are static typed. Of course, maybe this is just the WrongMarc dynamic type.

Here’s a keynote I gave at RubyConf Mini last year: Learning DNS in 10 years. It’s about strategies I use to learn hard things. I just noticed that they’d released the video the other day, so I’m just posting it now even though I gave the talk 6 months ago. Why do people find DNS so difficult? It's just cache invalidation and naming things.

The link is not correct. (It is the same as for the thread immediately below this one.)

Maybe it's a DNS error.

LinkedIn is laying off its last sales and product teams in China and discontinuing its app as it finalizes its exit. It was the last US social network there. Mama put my guns in the ground. I can't shoot them anymore.

Windows 11’s Settings panel has been seen with a number of adverts in test builds of the OS, in what’s becoming a sadly familiar theme for preview builds of late. Takes me back to the Kazaa and Limewire days.

By now, you’ve likely heard that passwordless Google accounts have finally arrived. This alternative for passwords is known as "passkeys." It all sounds well and good ... right up to the point Google decides to abandon the program in three years.

Today I’m in the town of Kemmerer, Wyoming, to celebrate the latest step in a project that’s been more than 15 years in the making: designing and building a next-generation nuclear power plant. Don't write-off nuclear energy just yet.

Google promised to create a better, faster web for media companies with a new standard called AMP. In the end, it ruined the trust publishers had in the internet giant. Ahh yes, AMP. Where I get to load a page a second time to get rid of AMP.
