If I block the div an ad is in, it doesn't matter if it was implemented in flash, html5, java, or silverblight; all are equally hidden from my view.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

As far as I'm concerned it is good news. I hate hate HATE flash with a passion.

And it needs to die. Flash is the new IE6.

YEah - but this initiative won't make it die - it will increase its lifespan - as why would flash devs learn HTML5 if they can keep doing what tghey are doing and have Google do the conversion for them?

You've a point. But maybe they will end-of-life the conversion after giving the converted-to-HTML5 flash code back to the admakers. Then also, at the same time, strip all flash out of webpages displayed in chrome.

I think animated banner ads should be converted to inert JPG's so that the first frame is the only thing they get to show...I can live with that.
Hey, that might be a good idea for a plugin

I wonder if they built their own tool for scratch, or if they're building off of Shumway[^], Mozilla's attempt to create a flash runtime in javascript.

As endlessly challenging as code is, dealing with people is, by far, the harder part of developing software products.
Once upon a time, I had a certification for Project Management from some Very Prestigious Project Management Organization. I knew all about PERT and Gantt charts, critical paths, and resource balancing. I won’t say that knowledge of such things is useless in software project management, but they are not nearly as important as these five issues
Agreed. I would much rather deal with code than deal with people

Oh, this is why Bill Gates and Elon Musk are afraid of AI.

They should just stop all this "touch" nonsense and go back to keyboards and mice like all sensible people should!

I actually started programming using a TTY and 8-hole paper tape. Cut and Paste actually involved using real scissors back then!
