A study found that Java developers backtracked every 6 minutes, meaning they reverted their code to a previous state "Oh, I believe in yesterday"
I've been debating including this one for a few weeks now (so it's not technically new). Apologies if it offends.

Because they are Java programmers.

Not sure if that is just plain confirmation bias or a not so successfully covered try for marketing..

A team of scientists from Tel-Aviv University have successfully given a robot the ability to hear sounds through the use of a dead locust’s ear. All I hear are crickets
OK, not directly related to our focus (other than the robotics angle), just sad for that locust that has to have a hearing aid now.

Sounds like the dead locust IS the hearing aid now.

Oh lord...
if we already fail to give proper / correct instructions to machines using languages explicitelly designed for it... what could go wrong, when we start "speaking" with machines if we can't even understand each other?
Additionally I wonder... will they get tinnitus or something like that?

These speakers can transcribe and translate meetings automatically They tell you when you're playing bad music?
I may not be able to get them.

And then send a copy of the transcription to the tech giant overlord so they can parse it and help you shop for something you didn't know you needed.

This is a business product not a consumer one. They'll create a blabbermouth score for all employees based on how much time they spend flapping thier gums; and that number will be used by PHBs to reward the :sunsine:s who can't shut up as the most productive people in the company. Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Here I was expecting that I could set up 4 or so speakers and depending on who's speaking, the sound would come out of a different speaker, to give you positional reference to each speaker.
Sadly disappointed. However I think that would be a cool, and probably useful, real "meeting room of the future" thing.

The big news is that Flutter 2, as the release is called, has been expanded to become a portable framework rather than just a mobile framework, which means it can now be used to create slick, feature-filled web-based applications. "Won't you fly high, free bird"
And they didn't break compatibility?!

Google is slowly phasing out third-party tracking cookies, and today, it’s making it clear that it won’t just replace them with something equally invasive despite the impact the change will have on Google’s lucrative advertising business. Do no evil (for a while)

They won't just keep tracking you; they'll do much more intrusive things as well.

As a developer you make repetitive changes to your code all the time. In many cases you don’t even realize that you are doing a repetitive task or that Visual Studio IntelliCode suggestions can help you. It looks like you're trying to edit some code, would you like us to repeat that change blindly throughout your codebase?

Although I can give you Intellisense is damned powerful and can be really useful, I still think it is a doulbe edged sword and many times can break things in very "funny" ways, specially if you blindly trust it as you say.

Perseverance is running on none other than a PowerPC 750, a single-core, 233MHz processor with just 6 million transistors that’s most famous for powering the original “Bondi blue” iMac from 1998. Can I get it in Blueberry?
Although I guess for Mars it would be either the Tangerine or Strawberry ones.

Quote: To make the system even more durable, the PowerPC 750 chip in Perseverance is a little different than the one in the old iMacs. It’s technically a RAD750 chip, a special variant that’s hardened against radiation and costs upwards of $200,000. Yeah, I'll take one! just put it on my tab.
