I am very much inclined to believe that full .NET will continue to be developed by Microsoft, and WinRT is really for lightweight apps that need to be run on both "WinPad" and desktop.

Sounds like a reasonable estimate that most serious work will remain on "Desktop" and WinRT Metro will be analogous to Silverlight.

Question is, will WinRT appears on "Desktop" API stack?
Scroll down on this article, WinRT appears on Desktop side as well!? (Although most other Windows 8 API stack diagram shows WinRT only for Metro styles apps)[^]
